DPIII's Sinking Ship

Mo couldn't have paid for this kind of exposure. Might finally be his ticket out of the small markets. Sad but true.

Is this really a suspension or are there high fives in the hallways for getting publicity?

I think a little of both. They don't want to look bad, but at same time, happy the station name and brand got out. Q92 seems like they are becoming a joke again.

If the transcript in the blog post is accurate, I fail to see why people are getting so offended. He didn't call her names, he didn't directly insult her intelligence, he just highlighted her speech impediment. Should I be offended and mobilise the klan if I call up and get offended because he can't understand my thick banjo pickin' southern accent? No.

This could have been a teachable moment for Kellie, to learn that not every person on the other end of the phone is going to be who you expect it to be, and that some might not handle her with kid gloves if they don't know who she is. She may have special needs but she isn't stupid. Sheesh. I'm sure she could be taught to understand that the world isn't all beer and Skittles.

There's a lesson for the protective little sister in this, too: you can't put padding around everything in the world that may be harmful to people with special needs. You can't force the world to walk on eggshells so your special needs sister is never confronted with ugly reality.

Instead, this girl's sister is trying to drum up a witch hunt to get this hacky morning guy fired for basically doing his job and being 'edgy'. If anyone deserves scorn, it's her. If the transcript had shown him to be more insulting and callous I might side with the sister, but the DJ didn't mock her Down's Syndrome because he didn't know she had it! This is misdirected anger at its finest, IMHO, and the sister does not deserve the publicity for what is basically a minor incident at an irrelevant station in a small town. Hell, the transcript even shows Mo contemplating the repercussions of his act on air, meaning that he was at least partially aware that what he did might not go over well with the overly-sensitive listeners.

You can't expect a radio host to be 'edgy' then expect them to second-guess everything they do, otherwise it'll turn into any other lame John Tesh/unfunny wacky morning zoo type show. Either stand behind them when they step in it, or blow out the show and put in some generic inoffensive BS. Considering the format, generic bland crap is probably more appropriate, anyway.

I think this all may be a PR stunt as it sounds something that was either staged, rigged, or set up as for the most part the conversation is based off how she talked not her disability. It does seems like Mo may have made a poor assumption that it was a listener just screwing around.

I enjoyed his apology. Used the word Listeners about a thousand times. Radio is a one-on-one medium. It should have been, I apologize to you, I hope you'll forgive me. I hope you'll see I made a mistake and you will continue to listen. Instead we got a lot of boasting. I found it interesting he mentioned several clients he endorses. I noticed he left several out. I think at one point he talked about himself in third person.

Not sure I'd be boasting. The ratings on that station are terrible. Sunk like a stone after February of last year.

Perhaps this whole talking politics, crime and porn stars for six minutes in between Pitbull records really doesn't make sense on a CHR.

With Deluca there was substance and balance. Outside of AM drive, they should shut up, play the hits. or try to make a compelling break that is less than 6:00 in length. (and does every break at the start of every shift have to be a laundry list of EVERYTHING that will be covered in the next 8 hours?)

On a side note: I hope during his suspension he has time to learn he does not need to ride the gain of the pot with his music bed. Modern processing has been around since 1973, and it's no longer necessary to ride the gain.

"The company's AM station has an eye catching website. A good example of Peterson's leadership."
That was a bad website for 1996? Can't they give some high school geek $100 in trade and have them updatte the site?
