My condolences goes out to the family of Rod "Dr. Jockenstein" King, who passed away this past weekend. I remember listening to him in the mid '80's while I was at Southern Illinois University in C'Dale and you can pick up the St. Louis stations in the tall residence halls.....great jock, great pipes....he will be missed.

Yeah me too... 'specially loved those Saturday night parties... btw he got the name "Jockenstein" in association with George "Funkenstein" Clinton and ironically enough the Funkadelics played the Orpheum the night of Jockenstein's funeral (5/9). They gave him all kind of props throughout the show, it was real nice.

I worked selling time and occasionally DJ'ing at WIL in the early '80's when Rod worked at his station one floor below. He was a gentleman and a fine professional during the one occasion when I met with him to conduct some shared business. My wife and I were intrigued by his rap and poetry and I was thrilled when he agreed to say a few words to Maureen by phone. Dr. Jockenstein helped give birth to the popularity of rap and captured the attention of thousands of black and white St. Louis fans. RIP Dr. Jockenstein. You were a fine performer.
