Dr. Joy Browne dies at 71

Wow...another radio talk show host gone within a number of weeks. First it was Jerry Doyle. Now Dr. Joy Browne. She had lots of success on her talk show, which ran for over 3 decades. She also hosted a short-lived TV talk show in syndication in 1999. RIP!

Dr. Browne was one of my favorite talk radio hosts, although due to her early morning Saturday and Sunday timeslot locally I rarely heard her show. She seemed to take more of an interest in her callers than other self-help hosts I've heard and she will be hard to replace.

I also thought she did a great show. She would take time with her callers and often chat with them for 20 minutes or more if they needed help. Unlike Dr. Laura, she didn't scold or talk down to her callers, although I guess for Dr. Laura's fans, that's part of her appeal.

The write-up says she was talking on the phone with her sister last Saturday when the line suddenly disconnected. Her show this week is in repeats, which I suppose was already scheduled, with Labor Day coming up. Her website is still up, DrJoy.com, where the show is still playing around the clock.
