Dr. Joy Browne To WWRL

Now we know why Joy's not promoing her return to the New York market.
How long will it be until Ed Schultz's contract expires, so Joy can be live Noon-3:00?

Right up there with Steve Malzberg's old move to WWRL

Jim (Who was on the Alma John show in ca. 1961-2) Who remembers Alma John???????

I'm surprised this unpleasant woman is resurfacing anywhere. Must be like a politician being reelected due to name recognition.

If a station wants to, they can cancel a syndication contract with notice. They don't have to wait until the end of the contract.

I do remember Alma John. I think Leon Lewis might have been on RL for a time. Lots of gospel music in the morning, Dr. Jive with R&B in the afternoon. Even a spanish community program sometime in the midday.

Wadio may be confusing Dr. Joy (Ph.D in Psychology) with Dr. Laura (Ph.D in Physiology) who would often argue with callers and had a few scandals in her career.

Not at all. Schlessinger's act was straightforward and could be somewhat entertaining. Browne is condescending to her callers. She scolds them, all the while reminding them of her lofty credentials. Then, after hanging up she puts on her "cutesy" act so as to neutralize her nastiness to the rest of the audience. Have a listen with that in mind ... if you don't mind getting up at 4 in the morning. ;)

What is really sad is that to be newsworthy, one needs to have a hardline political agenda.
I would love to have a good, entertaining host(ess) who never says anything about governments or the faiths of the book.
Having only heard a few minutes of Dr. Joy's shows, she might be close, I could be wrong.
BTW...don't want to hear about cross-dimensional space aliens either, sorry George Noory!

Fwiw, neither I nor the wife is a talk-radio fan. I don't know if that makes us more neutral or ignorant.

But the times we tuned in either Dr. Laura Schlessinger or Dr. Laura Browne -- there often was no choice -- the fare was sufficiently listenable.
Dr. Laura was on local WPAM back in their Hot Talk days, while Browne was on WOR, which has a decent daytime signal here.
I enjoyed Browne a lot more. She was gentler and seemed more into the Samaritan approach than Schlessinger. Dr. Laura had a better sense of humor (imho).

A show on WWRL at that hour, before even the roosters wake up, is sort of like Extreme Unction, but Dr. Browne has New York City clearance. In 2013 that stature might be the equivelant of owning a Commodore 64 computer. But that indifferent clearance apparently serves Disney, Salem, Nash, Crosby, Young, and the other place-mat placards well enough.

And WWRL makes it out this way on a lot of nights, for some reason (as does WINS and even WEPN).

Agreed with a14i here : Variety, please.

What I object to on a station that bills itself as NEWS/talk is programs that are "evergreen." Joy Browne's show fits that description, as does Dave Ramsey's. You could rerun either show from July 26, 2009 and nobody would know the difference.

There are good financial and consumer shows that stay current -- Larry Kudlow, Bob Brinker, Clark Howard -- but Ramsey is pure boilerplate. I don't know how an advice show could fit the news/talk definition but Joy Brown might at least be tolerable if she weren't so mean-spirited toward her callers.
