The other night I was listening to Dr. Joy and I heard her talking about how she was back on the air after being off the air for almost 3 weeks for Jury Duty. I had noticed a lot of her shows were best-of's lately but I didn't realize she was gone for that long. Did WOR notify all her affiliates that Dr. Joy was gonna be in Best-of's while she was on Jury Duty? I know if I was program director of a station and all of a sudden one of my shows was in best-of mode for 3 weeks without explination, I'd be looking for a replacement show.

So you'd FIRE someone for jury duty? What kind of patriotic American are you?

Go back and read the statement you're getting bent out of shape about, and not the part I emphasised. "I know if I was program director of a station and all of a sudden one of my shows was in best-of mode for 3 weeks without explination, I'd be looking for a replacement show."

It's not about the host being unavailable for three weeks because of jury duty, or any other reason. It's about getting "best of" shows without an explanation as to why there aren't new shows.

Any PD who'd get rid of a syndicated program because the host had jury duty should be fired himself. But any host who replaces their shows with "best of" show without any explanation as to why, regardless of the reason why, should be replaced. If a host has jury duty, or any other reason for having to do "best of" shows, that doesn't excuse them from their obligation to let everyone involved know in advance.
 
Fair points. You're right. Her syndicator should have notified their affiliates.
At the least, a substitute host could have been called in.

I had earlier that evening read a post about radio station's not providing retirement or other kinds of benefits to their employees, especially if they axe their talent.

I honestly was upset about the crappy way management pays and treats its workers, especially its "expendable" on-air talent.
