Dr. Laura Done With Radio!!

I agree...just because I don't like her style, I do respect her career. As far as KFWB....they are paying a certain someone millions of dollars NOT to work...and that certain someone's former bosses are all at KABC hoping to get the old team back together...a SMART move would be to get Tom Leykis while he's still on the payroll so KABC can't...but that would be the SMART thing to do, so they'll prob flip back to news.

This has got to be one of the worst threads on this board for a long time, and that is saying something.

The hate that regularly fills these posts to a lady who is very successful, not just in broadcasting, but as an author as well, should be nothing short of embarrassing to the posters who make them and the board that hosts them. She has been doing it for the better part of 20 years, many of those at they very top of the profession. She is in a very select company among the most successful broadcasters ever.

So she doesn't do it the way you would, (or you, or you, or even you, for that matter - and you all know who YOU are), so what? So she has a different set of values than you, so what? So she does radio different than you, so what?

Instead of doing the honorable thing and just flipping the dial to something you do like, you have to mock her, slime her, and accuse her over the years of any number of things,(most of which were never true). Of course she has human weaknesses and made errors along the way, both in her personal and professional lives that she would like back, just like anyone else. The only difference is, she lives in the spotlight 24/7, with her whole life available for scrutiny to any hack miscreant who appoint themselves sanctimoniously as judge, jury, and executioner. These people most likely couldn't hold up to the same level of scrutiny she has lived with for years for even a single day. Frankly, she has more class on her worst day than these commenters will have on their best.

You all need to give it a rest.

Then you miss the point of my hitting her.....she claims her first amendment rights are under assault. Clearly, there is zero truth to that. It is a disingenuous and untruthful reply when all she had to do was say it's not the job she wants to do anymore....claiming a boogie man is out to get her and her career is garbage and she deserves to be called out for it.

Except a sale doesn't appear imminent, and she walks in four months. So back to the question...how does KFWB fill the time Dr. Laura currently occupies?

Simulcast KNX?

Not gonna happen....negates the effect of putting KFWB in a trust and potentially dilutes KNX cume & share.

I certainly don't dispute the success she's had. But I absolutely don't care for her "blame game" nonsense on the way out the door. Is she really suggesting that people are out-of-bounds in using their First Amendment freedoms to communicate with her advertisers? She's starting to sound like that Tea Bag U.S. Senate candidate in Nevada who only wants to talk with reporters who are going to advance her agenda. What happened last week was that she inadvertently let her audience have a peek "under the tent," and in so doing exposed some things she's been pretty good at hiding. But our suggestion that we ignore realities and let her go quietly in to the night on her terms because she was once at the top of her profession doesn't hold any water with me. EVERYONE is accountable. Just ask Dan Rather.

I could see a liability problem with promoting a radio talk show host as an expert in personal relations, when she isn't. If someone thought they were getting valid professional advice and acted on it and was damaged, how could the station that promoted her not be liable for the damages? The question would be clearer if a quack promoted a fake cancer cure and listeners acted on it and died, or if an unqualified financial advisor steered listeners into bad investments. Sure, radio is show biz, but a lot of listeners take what they hear seriously. Maybe its time for disclaimers, how could it hurt.

As much as it pains me, I do have to correct some misinformation on this board. I believe she had an MFCC (Marriage, Family and Child Counseling) license in California, although she reportedly failed to renew it several years ago--perhaps because they have professional standards which did not conform to her far-right blathering. Amazing to me to see those on the fringes still support her, choosing to disregard all the hurt she caused in so many lives. Unfortunately, she plays into their bigotry and hatred.

No. She still sucks.

This.

What's more, she had no problem throwing caution and political correctness out the door previously. If Schlessinger wasn't such an intellectual coward, she'd use her current notoriety to not only defend her stance, but to explore and expand the credibility behind it. Doesn't the 'doctor' know any sociologists, any linguistics experts...other fellow experts?

Nah, just whine about people not being in love with everything you say or do, faking that you've been victimized.

I have exercised the very thing you implied. In the 20+ plus years Dr. Laura has been on the air I've logged a grand total of ~95 minutes of listening to her. Over any span where our paths might have met she has always revealed herself as as a shrill, disingenuous, cliché riddled, bitter shrew to me. And this is with her personal politics and beliefs aside. I don't care if she leans right or left or a dimension on the Z-plane, she's always came off like a b*tch to me.

Then again, I always enjoyed the light banter Joe Crummey had with his callers before Dr. Laura and her therapeutic "bag of tricks" came aboard and booted Joe all the way to Phoenix.

Why would KFWB flip back to all news just because they lost Dr. Laura? Granted, she may have been their most popular talk-host, but going back to a low rated and expensive format makes no sense. The AM dial is now filled with low-rated talk stations that run only syndicated programming. I don't know the economics of it, but presumably it's because these stations are cheap to run.

Clear Channel runs two talk stations in the Bay Area (910, and 960) that never even rate a .1 share, but they just keep limping along. It's too bad a station like KFWB with such a great history is suffering such a fate, but that seems to be the fate of AM. In the Bay Area, our two historical Top 40 frequencies (610, formerly KFRC, and 1260, formerly KYA) are both religious stations now.

Meanwhile in Heaven, Bill Ballance is still showing nude slides of Laura Schlessinger in her prime to Bob Crane and having a good laugh as they compare notes to the amount of tail they would get.

Post of the year right here. And I'm being completely serious.

Have you seen some of the posts in the New York section...??

You'd think it's that easy, but... well, I'll just say it's sort of like when you post something somewhere and someone is unsatisfied with the amount you had to say, so instead of using their brains and simply doing the honorable thing and just not reading it, instead they take time to complain and get upset as if it was mandatory that they read what is posted. It never ceases to amaze me. The amount of time spent opening a new post to start complaining is sometimes the same amount of time that could've been spent reading half of what was posted, or 98% more time than it would to just not read it if it's too much.
