Dr. Laura Quits her show.

Here's the short version. Dr. laura defended her right to use the word NIGG-R simply because black people use it all the time. So she feels that she should be able to use the word too. Unfortunately that reasoning didn't go over so well with one particular caller. Others followed. Now she caved in to all the pressure. Last night on Larry King Live she quit her show.

That's one less loud mouth on the air. I never did like her. She is an overpowering A-hole. Good riddance.

Thankfully she wasn't on in this market (that I know of). I have to say I was getting worried about her show expanding & doing well resulting in a 2nd renaissance. Well, her show is going the way of Renaissance Radio. Woohoo!

I think she's on HJJ. Not sure though. Time to check the schedule.

She had 500 affiliates. Now I heard it's 250. Soon to be ZERO. Not soon enough. If I had to choose only one person in radio as the person who sickens me the most, I am 99 percent sure that it would be her. It has nothing to do with her N-gger comment either. I had a strong dislike for her long before that ever happened. Calling people N-ggers was the first thing she ever did that started to make her interesting. Kind of dumb, but at least a bit more interesting.

I've never seen someone cave in so fast to a little controversy. She sure proved that she can't take a little heat in the kitchen. She didn't even put up a fight. I've never seen someone give up so quick. So much for that tough exterior on the air. Another phony baloney bites the dust.

I don't like her and never did... she is crude and thinks she's god. She is obnoxious and gives terrible advice and is ugly to boot. BUT I don't think she should quit. This publicity should make her a natural on FOX!

I agree with everything you just said. Even the part about not quitting. I can understand that she doesn't want to be judged. However you don't get into radio unless you are prepared to be judged. The last thing I would have done is give up. Especially so easily. She didn't even try to defend herself.

I can't even imagine a world where I would defend Dr. Lauura. But as messed up as I think her views are, I still think she has the right to say them without some wackos chasing her off the air.

I liked her and her show. You called her show and got her opinion which was passionate. If you did not like her, just don't listen. I'm sure those liberal talk shows on Jones Radio and the old Air America are more to your liking, and they had rude and arrogant hosts. Now with that said, let's all be friends.

One of the greatest things about Life itself is freedom of speech and the ability to make our own decisions. I would never put someone down for their personal choice. With that being said........

I think Dr. Laura is an overpowering loudmouth. I absolutely hate her manner of speaking. She talks down to her callers as if they are all beneath her. She has this way about her which always sounds like she is belittling whomever she is speaking to. She doesn't talk TO YOU. She talks AT YOU. Every conversation I've ever heard her involved in becomes very uncomfortable to listen to. She isn't exactly an easy person to speak with. Not according to the conversations I've heard. She is very condescending. It appears that she has no ability whatsoever to be honest with people without making them feel uncomfortable at the same time. One trait that all therapists should possess is TACT. Dr. Laura never learned how to incorporate that into her practice.

You are right. When you don't like someone, the simple solution is not to listen. I fully support that idea. But I'll always give someone a chance. There is only one way to know if you like somebody or not. You need to tune them in and give them a shot. Well I tuned in, I gave her a shot, then I came to a personal conclusion. Dr. Laura is a major a**hole.

What gets me is the amount of in-your-face tripe masquerading as talk shows, with the hosts bleating AT the callers rather than just talking TO them. I've heard this on both sides of the spectrum too.
My station runs a very conservative show from IRN/USA radio called Point Of View; the hosts there and their guests make it a point to treat the callers with at least some respect. It seems that in-your-face bellowing and overly simplifying subject matter assume the audience is as dumb as a box of rock. This is also why we have the edgy morning shows; lowest common denominator.

Amazing to think that the huge audiences attracted by various talk show hosts are composed mostly of disgruntled individuals who not just listen....but study the hosts to find things to complain about. Oh well, if that gets the numbers.......

Yeah it's amazing that people make it a point to listen before they form an opinion. It's even more amazing that people who don't like a particular host get labeled as disgruntled. That's horrible. ;D

As for Dr. Laura:

She must have known that she was playing with fire when she started toying around with words of a sensitive racial nature.

She's not an idiot...SO...I have to conclude that this was her way of ending the radio gig, and being able to do so by going out with a "BANG" instead of a whimper.

According to RI News she is merely leaving terrestrial radio. Different professionals who have made it do whatever suits them best, and they have earned that right and privilege. Those who are not professionals and have not made it settle for what they have, and they can't and don't go any farther, while those around them build a career and make it.

Here's the difference:

The disgruntled are those who sample the work of a host, find they don't like it but don't tune out and find something they do like. These are folks who hang on, listening through their disgust, in hope of finding something to pounce upon. But that's good, so long as they're honest and, when polled, admit what they're listening to.

It's all about numbers and how anyone gets them is unimportant.

Very true. All of it.
