Remember back 10 years ago, when WSB-AM 750 was really pushing Dr. Laura in the afternoons. Somebody please refresh me about when she moved back and forth from WGST to WSB. Didn`t she also move to another station in the mid 2000`s??? Is she still heard in Atlanta??? I remember Neal Boortz saying alot of insults about her even when she had a slot on his WSB-AM!!

I agree about WCFO - but I do like to hear another Laura on that station - one Laura Ingraham mid-days. but back to Dr. Laura - she was gaining traction nationally until it came out that she actually advocated traditional values, which of course made her the most hated woman in the nation.

WSB had her first in Atlanta. They started by airing reruns of her at night. Then they stuck the reruns in early afternoon and beat Rush on WGST.

WSB actually renewed the show, and it started running into the second contract. But somehow, because Clear Channel's Premiere Radio Networks was the syndicator, WGST was able to steal the show from WSB. Perhaps it was because WGST agreed to air her live in afternoon drive. I'm sure she was kicking and screaming all the way up Peachtree Street.

As well as the show did on WSB, it died on WGST, even in afternoon drive. I think they then moved Kimmer back to afternoons and put Dr. Laura on in the evening.

When Dr. Laura was on WSB, the Kimmer did a parody of her on his show. He called it "Dr. Nora," and (I think) it portrayed her as being on the mean side. But when her move to WGST was announced, somehow Dr. Nora was gone.

She was actually quite popular in the gay community at one time because she was a one-time sympathizer. That all changed when she had her TV show called homosexuality a biological mistake and immoral. Since then her ratings and number of affiliates have eroded quite a bit.

Her former home station, KFI/Los Angeles, recently "retired" her and she's moved to a different LA station. If you check the Los Angeles message board, it'll be easy to find the thread about her and others stating that Bill Handel said she'd been fired.

well to be fair to dr. laura by giving her the benefit of the doubt (and i do NOT know this to be a fact in her case), but there are many shuffles to different stations in markets no matter ratings or other matters the fault of the talent; take the case of laura ingraham with her switchover to WCFO. i believe it was a contract issue, so these things happen, but clearly she's not as popular as she once was.

Dr Laura had great numbers on WSB. She was so strong WSB had a Dr Laura birthday party for her. High tix price. Sold out. All for charity. I think her delivery has a lot to do with the station. She didn't do well on WGST especially when they moved her to nights. Nobody knows what WCFO is.
Many male program directors don't get into "help me" shows like this. Most male PD's would make fun of Oprah on tv as well. Most of Laura's topics are relationship centered and most guys would rather talk about something else. Many major facility pd's think this content is very "shallow, unnecessary and boring." She's still on some powerhouses like WJR Detroit but while people still like her the topic seems old. Plus she has the challenging mood swings many menopausal women have that are unpredictable. She may say "now go take on the day" but her staff aren't up to "taking on HER."
