Dr Laura

You have Dr. Laura 12-4 PM (3-4 is a repeat of 12-1) on KFWB 980.

Or was this a sarcasm on post inferring the Canadian import on KFI
is as bad as Bill "don't handel yourself as well 12-2" Handel was?

Joe J-J-J-J-Joe Crummey for 12-2 or 12-3 so John And Ken can get a break.

The right choice.

Agreed!!!!!

If however you need a Dr. Laura fix, she is on here in the evenings (6-9pm which translates to 4-7pm PDT). Streaming at http://www.kbizam.com/index.php

Personally I have not availed myself of the opportunity. ;D

Did anyone notice in the John and Ken "Heads On a Stick" photo posting that Dennis Zine looks remarkably like Uncle Fester?

I'm pretty sure that the OP was being sarcastic. Bill whatever-his-name-is at Noon on KFI stinks!!!

Respectfully have to disagree. I think he sounds pretty good. KFI knew that Laura-not-really-a-doctor would take her audience with her and they also knew that they would have to re-build. Personally I'm not a Laura-not-really-a-doctor fan. She's just not a very nice person on and off air. She's rude to her callers, has zero compassion and is dare I say a bit of a hypocrite. But hey, she's rich and famous and that's what she wanted. I'm sure her future in radio will have her on KFWB until she retires. That will be CBS's selling point when they unload 980. "Hey, it's an AM with a bad line-up of syndicated talkers, but you're getting Dr. Laura." The station is a one trick pony and she's the trick.

While I wholeheartedly agree with your assessment of Dr. Laura (she is a doctor in the sense of having a Phd, not an MD.) I have to respectfully disagree on Handel. Years ago I discovered his show during one of the frequent Best Of repeats of Howard Stern. At that time his show was bright and upbeat with a lot of topical humor. Later, pretty much following "Nipplegate" and the fines levied on Stern. the show became more reserved and except for the first two hours and, more recently, the last half hour.

When Handel is doing an interview he is good but when it is just him expounding on whatever topic it is pretty dry and hard to listen to, sort of a Dennis Prager without the intellect. I know it is just my opinion but it is my honest assessment, love the 5-6 hour and Handel On The News, ho-hum on the rest and the mid day attempt. "Handel On The Law", is often funny and he does sometimes give some good advice but if you don't like Don Rickles and find Dr. Laura's treatment of callers distasteful then it is not going to be your cup of tea.

"Handel On The Law" is also carried locally, so I do sometimes listen while my objection to Dr. Laura has more to do with her hypocrisy so I choose not to listen. When I have listened to Dr. Laura I found her to be needlessly, often sadistically, cruel to the callers and given her personal proclivities that makes her hard to take. As my Grandmother always said, if you live in a glass house don't be throwing stones at others.

I was referring to Bill Carroll. Handel, no, not as impressed with him as others are. He has his moments, but not enough good ones as far as my tastes go.

Yes, Laura's doctorate is in physiology which if I'm correct has nothing to do with psychology. She's just stating her opinion without much education in that area to back it with. She is an entertainer, there for herself and not the caller. and you are correct, she is without a doubt "needlessly, often sadistically, cruel to the callers" and that's sad. They need help and she just berates them, leaving them worse off emotionally than before calling her...

There was a little known movie staring Dolly Parton, "Straight Talk" wherein she goes to apply for a job as a secretary at a Chicago radio station and someone mistakes her for the new person that they have hired to host an advice show. They put her on the air and give her the title "Doctor" but unlike Dr. Laura she gives good common sense advice and becomes a hit. A local reporter starts digging and gets her real story to out her. If Dr. Laura were more like the Dolly Parton character I would have no problem with her but she is not. Of course Dr. Phil is an even bigger buffoon which goes to show that just having a degree isn't the answer either.

At least Dr. Phil has some entertainment value to the aficionados of the Jerry Springer, Ricki Lake, Sally Jesse Raphael type of shows. I can not for the life of me understand why anyone would listen to Laura Schlesinger let alone call her for advice. Maybe it is a sign of the sickness that has infected society and they really want the public humiliation while it feeds the need of those who want to feel better about themselves by observing the debasement of others.

Just a thought, free idea to KFWB programmers. How about a legal advice show with Gloria Allred to counter Handel On The Law on the weekends? Better than brokered programs and infomercials, eh?

Except that Gloria will cost mucho $$$$$$$$

Not so mucho if they get her face in the news. You may have noticed, I have, that those cases she involved herself in such as "Octomom" got her on all of the news channels but when they died out she quietly faded away too. Remember radio stations platser billboards and bus signs all over and Gloria's face riding the MTA all over town would suit her just fine.

Lucky for us that Gloria is such a private, retiring personality who'd not wish to bring her raucous screeching into our homes on a regular basis. Actually, though, it's hard to imagine she hasn't discussed this possibility with PD's in the past. She might not be willing to put that many hours into the scheme and probably prefers only her occasional forays into the limelight. She also may understand the downside potential of too frequent exposure. Hope so.
