Drake 92.7?

After stunting as "Drake 92.7" now urban "The Block 92.7" was thinking they might try old school hip hop to compliment their "Old School 105.3" Radio One has tried urban on this frequency before at "Hot 92.7" Guess they are thinking "Power 98" is now vulnerable.

Well, 92.7 has had a power boost too. But still a class C3 against a 100kw flamethrower is still going to be tough. Maybe they think they have a better chanve against Beasley then they did with CBS??

92.7 will probably cover Charlotte, Gastonia, Concord, and Rock Hill. But not as far reaching as 97.9 which makes it into Spartanburg and parts of Greenville, SC and up to Greensboro.

Why did they not keep gospel? I know 100.9 had to do something but seems like a proven format would do better on a stronger signal.

From what I read in the Charlotte Observer 92.7 had only about a third of the total Praise 100.7 listeners. I believe the new PD for Radio One in Charlotte used to work in Greenville, SC. Thinking she is programming all three stations.

I haven't gotten around to looking at the Observer article but I will likely see it tomorrow. I say likely because with the Observer's new look, I tend not to notice things I would have before. Mark Washburn's photo, when he is being that paper's Andy Rooney, looks so mean. Maybe he has a better one for ordianry commentary and news.

I guess the better signal would work better for hip-hop. Certainly 100.9 FM (not 100.7) is in the wrong part of the market for the best possible signal. I've long believed smooth jazz would be a good choice for a station covering Ballantyne, Matthews and Weddington.

I was thinking Charlotte already had two hip-hop stations. I remember now. I had to look it up on another site but the other station was called Streetz. Whatever happened to it? It wasn't a strong station so I guess it wasn't a success.

Haven't checked in a while thought Streetz was still on the air. Think the FM is 100.3, perhaps a translator for what was WGIV AM. Possible LMA, think the guy running Streetz is out of Atlanta.

I checked and Streetz is on 1370 AM and 103.3 FM
I did not know that. I assume they would stick with an adult sound, since the station started out as just an AM. But as long as there's an FM, it's worthwhile.

So Charlotte has three hip-hop stations. Though Power 98 was always a little on the adult side.

The ratings site I go to does not even list this station, or give me a way to tell them to add it, though in another market they wouldn't even bother to correct the mistakes I told them about.

But WPEG has taken a big hit with 12-plus listeners.

If a station is not a subscriber to the ratings, the public 12+ or 6+ (PPM) ratings will not be released or published. However, Radio One is a subscriber so if WQNC got significant ratings, the data would be public.

And some ratings sites do not list stations with very low shares; WQNC averaged a 0.3 in the summer months, so perhaps it just was below the cutoff point for the site you visited.

It goes as low as 0.1. The problem, I think, is that WQNC and WPZS have been simulcasting and now they're not. This site doesn't list simulcast partners separately, although a site I used to go to would put both or all on the same line.

WPEG's problems continue, with no explanation. I even clicked on the link in the WQNC Wikipedia article that is supposed to provide Arbitron information, and nothing came up.

I have been wondering where the numbers were for 92.7 the Block as well. Streetz and the Block are probably hurting WPEG, the PD that handles WPEG and WBAV was shown the door earlier this week.
