DRAKE AND TM

Hey Guys:

Would anybody know if any radio stations in Dallas used automated programs from Drake (Hit Parade 68, 69 Solid gold) and TM Stereo Rock?

Thanks

T.J.

.....I think KWXI used Drake......

Nothing to do with Drake....just some memories, for years I had an old business card from a friend who had worked in sales at KWXI. I recall the slogan on it as being "Bright Down The Middle." In the mid 70's KWXI was a MOR/AC format with Hubcap Carter's oldies show on Friday nights.

KDNT-FM, 106.1 used the TM MOR type format in the mid 70's. They switched to the 12" only disco format in 1979 before being sold.

99.5 was Oldies before it became the Easy Listening version of KPLX. Not sure what year that was. It was early to mid 70's.

Having worked for TM's programming division, I don't recall KDNT as a customer, I could be wrong though.

When religious KDTX evolved into super soft rock KMGC in late 1977, they used what was marketed as the TM "Beautiful Rock" Format
as the soft rock, singer-songwriter format had a bit of traction back then. It was an interesting music mix, initially consulted by the same guy (George Burns) that programmed TM Stereo Rock. Trivia, the back announce announcer for TM Stereo rock was the great John Borders. TM Beautiful Rock was back announced by Jack Schell. And the country format? Sam Bogart.

When KMGC ran the format they had all live jocks including the late Jerry Houston and the late Steve Nichol.

TM Beautiful Rock evolved into an AC format and then eventually died when Satellite Music Network and Transtar (remember Format 41?) arrived in the early 80's.

TM Stereo Rock was a very successful format back in the day.

"Beautiful Rock" didn't know what that was called, but it was nice to listen to. "The Right Thing To Do" - Carly Simon & "South City Midnight Lady" - Doobie Bros, are two songs I remember them playing.
