Drama Hour Returns to 1260 AM (KKGO)

An on-air promo says old-time radio shows return Monday, August 8th. The one hour program starts at 9 P.M. and continues thereafter each night with a replay at 2 A.M. I am not sure about weekends.

It's not The Drama Hour, though. KKGO is going to be running "When Radio Was" with Stan Freberg, which provides one and a half old radio shows per evening.

And also a 30 minute show, and a 15 minute installment of "Superman" on Fridays.

Saul's stations are a joke - old format today, new stunt tomorrow, and a new format the next day. The old shows are on, then they're not, then they come back, but in a different package. It is all too confusing - and I actually pay attention to radio. Imagine how confused the average lister is - especially his average listeners who typically range between 50 and death!

I remember how outraged he was when KNX took the programs off and he added them. I think the outrage could be measured in weeks, or months at most, before he yanked them as well.

Say what you will about Saul, but the Stan Freberg shows are really pretty good.
They cherry pick some of the best. I heard it one night a few years back from a station up in the middle of the state and they ran an old Jack Benny show.
Freberg gives you history about the show and when it was originally broadcast and it was pretty cool. Benny of course was great. I laughed my way down I-5.

Freeberg is on weeknights at 10pm on KSL 1160.

Don't know if I can pick KSL up as easy as I used to, but I'll try.
Thanks for the info!

Jack Benny is da bomb. I can't remember the last time I sat in my car after reaching my destination to listen to something finish, Jack did that to me. Not to name drop, but I was once doing business with Mel Brooks and I mentioned how the basic concept of Seinfeld was cribbed from Benny (someone playing someone very much like himself, breaking down fourth walls, etc.) and he agreed.

I got so pissed off at the KNX logic of "We're dumping the old time radio because we're a news station." In the next breath, "But we're going to devote all Sat and Sun morning to a cooking show (great male demos there), and all Sat and Sun PM to someone talking about computers." Dropping Melinda Lee's daily screechfest after the Northridge quake I could understand, giving her back the weekends is just nuts. The woman is totally entitled to a cooking show and I know she has lots of fans, but she doesn't belong on KNX 1070 Newsradio.
