Dramatic music changes on Magic 105.1!

Magic has dramatically reduced the number of hits from the 80s and 90s they play every hour. They have almost become a HOT AC. Many current hits like "We Are Young", "Somebody That I Used To Know", "Payphone" by Marron5, many Lady Gaga, Katy Perry and Kelly Clarkson songs. Even "Dynamite" by Taio Cruz and "Dj Got Us Falling In Love Again" by Usher! They sound way better than Fresh!

Yuck... like Detroit really needed another station playing all those songs/artists. The softer lean was the one thing that made that station discernible from WNIC. Oh well... back to Cars 108 and 101.5 The River.

And there you go, Detroit. ANOTHER Hot AC/borderline Adult CHR station coming to fruition.

Sooner or later, SOMEBODY is gonna realize that we need another Country station to, if anything, put YCD on notice.

It's not that exceptional from most AC's - they're still playing 70s and 80s music (but 70s doesn't really belong on AC anymore)...just looks like an uptempo AC to me (as Hot AC has started to sound more like CHR, AC has started sounding like Hot AC).

Maybe it will make Fresh drop the 80s...

What?!? Another Hot AC station? We really don't need another one of those stations. We already have WDVD (which is an Adult CHR), and WNIC (which is a straight Hot AC called Fresh 100.3). I'm starting to question current Detroit radio and the formats included.

They're not Hot AC. They just sound like an AC station should in 2012 (except they're still playing 70s music).

Hot AC's aren't playing Boston, Des'ree, Five For Fighting, Rod Stewart, Elton John, or Seal - it's just a typical AC, which they had been the opposite of...

I had never though I'd ever hear so much USHER on WMGC! What are they going to do with their name? "The New Soft Rock 105.1" and then Dynamite by Taio Cruz starts... lol

It's a dumb move.

I'm sure this is an over reaction to meet a demographic target.

They stood out as a pure AC, by trending to a Hot AC, they muddle into territory that a WHOLE LOT of other stations are in.

@Jason1589: You think that's an anomaly, check out some of the songs now playing on stations passing themselves off as "Lite"...

They may as well go back to calling themselves "Magic 105.1." "Last Friday Night" by Katy Perry is neither "rock" nor "soft." In fact, what I would call it isn't a word for polite conversation. LOL. I still would choose 105.1 over "Fresssssssssssh" 100, but now this move makes me wish even more that we had a Smooth AC station in this market.

Perhaps the most extreme example of the moniker not matching up with the actual playlist I've heard of is the "EZ Rock" stations in Ontario. Apparently they consider Flo Rida and Nicki Minaj "EZ Rock."
