"Draw Something": The TV Series

As the article notes, the "Draw Something" fad has already passed. I wouldn't be surprised if this never sees the light of day.

Why would the show necessarily be 'doomed' because of the performance of the smartphone app that inspired it?

Four words, Nate: "$#!t My Dad Says." :D

True, but a smartphone app and a funny Twitter account are far from the only non-traditional inspirations for television shows (laying aside works like previously written plays, books*, or movies): There have been starring vehicles thrown together for comedians (both based on and completely different from their acts--see Bob Saget), pop bands/pop stars, and current/former sports stars. We've had shows based off board games, video games, advertising characters, and thanks to NBC and Ford Motor Company--a compact SUV.

The rising or declining popularity of these persons/creations/things didn't make the shows created for them any more or less viable. Keeping an audience (after being greenlit) is what actually kept things rolling. Sometimes, you end up with Cavemen--other times you end up with the many [regrettable] adventures of Ernest P. Worrell.

(*I'll indulge the use of comic books...used any lately? How about your kids? Marvel still seems to be doing alright in case either of you haven't...)
