DRC-FM Computer Glitch

I know it seems I've been picking on DRC-FM a lot lately, but it's what I've been listening to mostly. Today I was driving to pick up my friend and had DRC-FM on in the car.

I'm paraphrasing with my own words here:

12:05PM Floyd: Here's Chic with Le Freak on DRC-FM. Le Freak Begins Playing. Less than 2 mins later song is cut off. Liner: DRC-FM. New Song Begins.

I haven't heard them in a while... are they classic hits or oldies these days?

Both. LOL. They play lots of 80s stuff, but they will occasionally play a 50s tune. But in commercials they run to get people to advertise they refer to the station as Connecticut's #1 Oldies Station. When I refer to the station on other boards I refer to is as Oldies/Classic Hits.

Yes.com confirms the glitch. "Le Freak" started at 12:05, followed at 12:06 by the Buckinghams' "Mercy Mercy Mercy." That's a great song -- I'd be tempted to cut "Le Freak" short intentionally if I knew "Mercy Mercy Mercy" was next up!

As for DRC-FM's format, songs played in the three-hour period that included those two songs included Chuck Berry's "You Never Can Tell," Roy Orbison's "Dream, Baby," Bruce Springsteen's "Glory Days" and Huey Lewis' "Heart and Soul." Other songs played during that period included the Guess Who's "Hand Me Down World," Status Quo's "Pictures of Matchstick Men" and Darlene Love's "All Alone on Christmas," so you can see this is not your run-of-the-mill classic hits channel.

Anybody hear Wilson Pickett's "Silver Bells" this year? That used to be a holiday staple on the station but got phased out a few years ago. I haven't heard it since.

They're still playing his "Jingle Bells." Did he do a version of "Silver Bells," too? I don't recall it.

I think they're going deeper into the classic Phil Spector Christmas album than before, and have added quite a few new tunes from other artists. I'm pretty sure Lou Rawls' "Drummer Boy" is new this year -- although the recording has been around for years -- as well as a version of "Hark! The Herald Angels Sing!" by America, of all people. A couple of selections from the Brian Setzer Orchestra are also getting played.

Oh, and they're still playing "Rusty Chevrolet," by Da Yoopers. I have no idea why this regional holiday song -- "Yoopers" refers to the U.P. (Upper Peninsula of Michigan) -- has become such a staple on a Connecticut FM station, but somebody at Big D obviously took a liking to it several years ago and it's rolled out every December without fail.
