Dream Morning Show ---Albany Market

If you could put together a Dream Morning Team, who would you put together? A host and co-host (a third person?) and they don't have to necessarily work in the morning right now. Especially with Governor Patterson's signing of the bill maybe people will have more freedom of movement.

A re-teaming Sean McMaster, Richie Phillips, Scott Reardon, Rick Robinson and Lisa (Spear) Riley on WGNA. Or,
we could just get frivolous and suggest teaming Bob Mason, Jamie Roberts and Alan Chartock on WROW-AM. Now, that would be an interesting personality mix.

A Fantasy Station that could knock WGNA off the top:

Morning show: two young women: one black, one Asian or Indian. A black DJ/turntablist who has a following in the Albany Area. A guy who can do a tiny bit of sports (emphasis on LOCAL sports) and "pal along" with everyone else a la bababooey. A good newscaster. And a "father" or "mother" figure to moderate "the crew" - there would be music - presented in a way that would appeal across age, race and social status. Lots of visibility and promotion: like the old Brian, Ellen and Big Ray TV show. Concerts at the Times Union Center.

Two possible scenarios:

DJ Thomas + Sumi Somaskanda + Kuttmaster Supreme + "Bitter" + Reed Shepherd + Ernie Tetrault as "the Dad"

-OR-

Linda Love + DJ Thomas + DJ Biz + Tracy Egan (doing sports and a stint as "the Mom") + Jim Knapp (news)

The only PD who could pull this off would be the Sugar Bear. Brian, Ellen and Big Ray would do the PM drive
on this fantasy station. From 6pm on there would be REAL Hip-Hop like Hot 97 in New York - Friday and Saturday night mix shows with local deejays.

Don't hold your breath. Nobody in the Albany market would ever be so bold or adventurous. Radio here is calm and kooky.

I think Todd Petengill was the best morning man ever in the Albany market. Bring him back and add Brian Cody as his side kick.

You are all missing the boat. Radio is dead as a primary information and entertainment platform, has been for several years, deregulation was the murder weapon (as with the airlines). Gen Y doesn't even know that there is such a thing as "radio". Radio is reacting just like print and TV, diluting the product and driving the best people out. Look at what the big consolidators in all 3 industries have done to ruin careers and lives while killing their products. The 3 will survive in some form but not what you are used to. Keep your eye on Sam Zell, Randy Michaels and Marc Chase at Tribune for a clue where things are going. They are fully aware that new cars no longer even come with a radio but do have fully interactive entertainment and information capabilities. BMW is about to roll out their WiFi vehicles (everybody else will soon follow) and that means yet another whole new platform for the consumer, pushing radio even farther down the list.

No, MT1, YOU are missing the point---- we're talkin' DREAM team as in Fantasy Football--- and NO, radio is not dead yet, despite the best efforts of crappers like Clear Channel and "The Jay and Ben Marathon show" and "live local" shows such as "Mark Williams via San Francisco" to kill it.

Sure thing Johnny, and the folks over in Westfield are going to again be the buggy whip capital of the world. "Dream" is the proper word.

Here's one that will never happen. One hour 9am-10am on, let's say Friday where WGY, WROW and Talk1300 do a three way simulcast of hosts battling wits against other hosts. Roney v Donovan v Vandenburgh. Now THAT I'd listen to!

Why would WGY give air or promotion to a pair of stations that combined have less than 1/2 WGY's numbers and even less percentage of their billing any more than Dunkin Donuts would advertise great coffee at Starbucks?

Perhaps "MarkTalk1" didn't see the recent collaboration among TV network anchors. Of course it wasn't a simulcast. OKAY take WGY out of the equation. Let's toss in Big Ray from JAMZ instead. Oh dear, then we'd be "Pamal top-heavy."

MT1 you take all of this much too seriously - we're musing and fantascizing (sp) here. Take a deep breath, buddy boy!

My mistake Johnny, when I first found this site I somehow got the impression there were professional broadcasters / media involved, at least informed and interested observers. At first glance you put up a good facade but now that I know you are a troll looking to get a rise out of anybody who will pay attention to you, by spouting random and baseless accusations I know enough to ignore you.

MarkTalk1, you wet-blanket nutsie face! You need to re-lax. Obviously, you did not read the fine print that appears at the bottom of every Radio-Info page:

"Postings on Radio-Info.com are the opinions of the people who post them. Views expressed do not necessarily represent the views of Radio-Info.com or its parent in3 media, inc. In fact many of the views expressed here are just plain wrong. But they are opinions and this site allows us all to discuss those opinions. ;D."

I'd listen to that show. ;)
