Dream scenario for Miller fans...

Dream Scenario for Miller fans:...WHJJ hires DePetro back and 'RKO snares Miller ("let us run her show;
we've got a better signal"). Though 'RKO's connections with Premiere means
that should DePetro leave, it might be Glenn Beck instead or even a local
person.

Is HD radio being rolled out on the AMs? I guess they can only do it during
the day hours though. You could have:

WRKO (1)--local host
WRKO (2)--syndie host

WEEI (1)--local host
WEEI (2)--Fox Sports Radio (during day)

No you couldn't. HD Radio subchannels (HD2) are practical only on the FM-band version. The AM-band version has barely enough bandwidth for one channel during the day and because of skywave interference to first-adjacent-channel stations, zero channels at night. That's not zero subchannels; it's zero total HD channels.

Lets get real here. John Depetro is now beating his WTKK counterparts in the ratings. He even has them talking about him, which is a dream come true. He isn't going anywhere.

As far as Air America dying (or dieing as you say), I get the impression that you are happy about the fact that 49% of the country (according to the last election)
has no major national representation on commercial talk radio.<P ID="edit"><FONT class="small">Edited by HHH on 03/06/06 01:20 PM.</FONT></P>

If Air America is dying, as most observers seem to think it is, it's because of a bad product. Put something truly entertaining on the air, and it will succeed, whatever the political slant.
If Air America can't even get the attention of 49% of those who voted in the last election, why should anyone care if Franken & Co. go belly-up?

It's confusing to refer to 1200/1430 as "Air America." Yes the majority of the programming does originate with Air America, but not all of it--that is, not Stephanie Miller and not Ed Schultz (and not a locally produced Sunday morning public-service block). Miller's and Schultz's programs are syndicated by Jones Radio Networks. To be accurate and to avoid confusion, I guess you should refer to the local Air America affiliates by their own (unfortunately long and unwieldy) positioner: "Boston's Progressive Talk."

BTW, maybe half a dozen years ago, Stephanie Miller did a syndicated late-night talk show that WRKO aired for more than a year. For sure, that show, like the current one, featured voice guy Jim Ward and may also have featured Miller's current producer, Chris LaVoie.

Yes, it did.It originated from KABC in L.A. and there was an interesting situation toward the end of the show where she was cancelled by KABC yet continued to
do the show from there.

Liberals have plenty of representation in newspapers, TV, Hollywood, etc.

The Left has had years to try to make inroads in talk radio but have wound
up with failure. Their only hope if Air America fails is to try and bring
back the (un)Fairness Doctrine, which would result in political talk
radio suddenly turning into Gardening Today. That's because stations wouldn't want to
put issues-oriented talk on, since they'd be _forced_ to carry "the other
side" (which would mean lower ratings). Put on an interesting talk show,
liberals, and see if you can match Rush's ratings.

If WRKO thought Franken and Schulz would get higher ratings that Limbaugh
and Carr, they'd pick up the AAR affiliation in a heartbeat.
