dredg/Coheed & Cambria

Both these very artsy rock bands have brand new singles out. I see that according to R&R 12 stations are on dredg's "Bug Eyes", but I don't see any adds for Coheed yet. To me both these bands are a perfect fit for alt. radio. They have a harder edge to them which lends a nice variety to alt. playlists, but still have a very dynamic sound to them which makes them much more interesting to listen to than the usual Active Rock crossovers (Audioslave, Mudvayne). We at non-comm alt. rocker WBWC in Cleveland have added "Welcome Home" by Coheed and "Bug Eyes" by dredg, and both have gotten good listener response. What do you guys think?? Alt. radio worthy?

On a side note...its finally good to see the rest of the alt. radio world finally jump on Head Automatica's "Beating Heart Baby" This has been one of our most popular songs at WBWC for the past 6 months....still gets strong response. Solid tune, and a pretty good album to boot.

Coheed is another example of radio playing catch-up to groups who listeners already know of (see Fall Out Boy, Taking Back Sunday). Great song, great album, all stations should be playing this. Head Automatica should be gold right now (that song has major crossover potential).

I can see why some stations may have been a bit wary of playing Coheed in the past. Claudio's voice is a bit...well, "different." However we've had HUGE success with the two tracks we played from the last album, and our listeners are liking "Welcome Home" so far. Coheed is a band to me that appeals to not only the younger demo, but also the older alt. demo as well. I can't count how many calls we've gotten from people wondering if this was the new Rush single.

The fact that its taken so long for radio to discover Head Automatica is a disgrace to programmers everywhere.

Rock 93-5 (alternative) in Columbia, SC plays Dredg's "Bug Eyes."<P ID="edit"><FONT class="small">Edited by PassDutch on 08/31/05 08:51 PM.</FONT></P>

Kinda reminds me of Geddy a little bit...
