Drew Carey/The Price Is Right

I'm snowbound in Massachusetts today so I thought I'd watch TPIR for the first time in awhile since Drew took over and I can't say I was that much impressed. He's better than when he first started for sure. I saw parts of his first week (or the first week that aired) when he seemed incredibly uncomfortable and he's better than that.

But Drew spent way too much time trying to be funny (he wasn't) and too much time stumbling over his own words.

The only amusing part was the contestant who bore a resemblance to Drew.

On the plus side, the models were incredibly gorgeous.

I think a lot of Price fans share your opinion of Drew, including myself. I still think he's a nice guy and kind of has that "warm and fuzzy" aura about him. But you still have to be able to host the show.

I heard that Bart Eskander, a longtime director on the show, was recently fired. They also got rid of Roger Dobkowitz last year - one of the top producers. So is it safe to speculate that Drew Carey could be replaced at some point? Or should we be more worried about the future of the entire show? You have to wonder.

I suppose it depends on how much money the show is making for CBS and the production company (Fremantle?).

There's probably no shortage of companies waiting to get their products on the show and no shortage of potential studio audience and potential contestants and no shortage of gorgeous models waiting to strut their assets.

And, aside from rabid fans of the show (Golden-Road.net), I don't think the general public really cares who's directing or producing. I certainly don't. I don't like to see anyone lose his or her job but I never watched the show because of Roger or Bart or anyone else behind the scenes.

Drew at this point ought to be more comfortable than he appears to be especially for a guy who used to host and participate in an adlib show (Whose Line).

If they decide to drop Drew, I'd say it's time to rest the show for a year or two before they bring in another new host.

Bob Barker *was* The Price is Right. After all those years there is really no way of replacing him. I have only watched a few episodes since he left and find that it would be just as well if the show was off the air completely. The name is the same. The show is not.

I agree, I loved Bob on the Price is Right but haven't watched it for more than a few minutes at a time since he left. I tried watching it a few times with Drew and it was just unbearable to me. Bob was always so quiet and modest and just very pleasant to watch. Drew is just... a character. I think he's doing the best he can, but it just doesn't work for me.

In fairness to Drew, he did have very big shoes to fill. I'm not sure who could have done the job, if anyone.

Well, had I wished to troll back through a year's-plus worth of old threads, I might have found that one which, it turns out, hasn't been touched in over a year.

Although I can't stand "The View," it seems to
make headlines every day: Jill Biden saying (erroneously)
that Barack Obama considered her husband for secretary
of state; Rod Blagojevich (sp?) claiming he can't get a
fair trial and something getting started that he was going
to appoint Oprah to Obama's vacant Senate seat. Since
you never know what revelation might come out, "The View"
has almost become must-see-TV in the morning, and that's
got to be negatively impacting "Price."

"Price" should have done one of two things: retire it when
Bob retired, or pick a real game-show host such as Todd Newton,
who at least knows the games. (But then, what do I know?
I'll go to my grave thinking that John Roberts should have had the
"CBS Evening News.")

I think its crap!

That new microphone, the changing of the music,etc.....

I dont watch it anymore......

I wish GSN would start showing it again!! (Older shows)

This was on the Oprah Winfrey show, not the View.

I wish you were kidding. The changing of the host might be a reason to cease watching a program, but I don't believe the music or microphone is.

I have not watched an episode of The Price Is Right ever since Drew Carey took over nor do I ever intend to unless there is a new host that can be enthused by the game and John O'Hurley comes to mind and he does a great job on Family Feud and why they couldn't they have considered him for the job I don't know. Bob Barker did double duty on both The Price Is Right and Truth Or Consequences from 1972 to 1974 so why not.

I read about the perfect bid on the Showcase Showdown that happened in December 2008 and even saw it on YouTube and you can tell Drew wasn't very enthused or excited about it AT ALL. It reminds me a lot when Louie Anderson hosted Family Feud for 3 years and how bored he was and acted like he didn't want to be there.

So did you know that Drew Carey wasn't enthused before you didn't watch any episode since before he took over?

The microphones.
The music.
The changing colors.
Man there are some picky people on this TPIR issue.

Good thing we live in America and they still got hot models on TPIR, we can still ;D ;D ;D about it.

I think he wanted to let the reactions from the contestant and the audience speak for itself. If it was Bob, he'd be like "The act-ual retail price of your Showcase is... (long pause) $23,743...RIGHT ON THE NOSE!!!!!!! YOU WIN BOTH SHOWCASES!!!!!!!!"

You hit the nail on the head!!! That's the difference between a PROFESSIONAL game show host and a CLOWN-like comedian. I'm convinced that Drew doesn't know what's going on most of the time. Drew reacts to the "ding-ding-ding" to tell someone they've won. Bob usually knew it before the flashing lights and ringing bells sounded. Bob understood the games and was able to process the information immediately.

Honestly, the music, set, microphone are all irrelevant. They should have chosen a game show host to replace Bob Barker. PERIOD. Drew simply doesn't work.

Boy you people just need to have something to talk about, don't you?

I've watched TPIR many times since he took over and he looks just fine, in fact, very entertaining. He's not Bob Barker, he's somebody else, and I think those of you who are hanging on to that need to get over it. The audience seemed to be having a great time and as far as I know, ratings are fine.

he was the right choice.
I say again, move on.
