Drex on All-News 106.7

Drex, who is half of Kiss 95.1's morning team in the Charlotte market, has been doing the post-Braves-season talk show on News Radio 106-7. I don't know if this is an interim thing until the station finds a talk host or it's "permanent."

Clear Channel Radio/iHeart Media must have thought the world of Drex, at least of his ability to get ratings. When he left 103.5 Kiss FM in Chicago, he waited out a 3-year non-compete. I suppose he wanted to stay in Chicago.

Kiss 95.1 in Charlotte didn't renew its long-time morning show, Ace & TJ, several years ago. But Kiss, owned by CBS, was not figuring on CC starting a directly competitive CHR station and hiring Ace & TJ. That prompted Kiss to hire Drex (and Maney). After being edged out for a while, Kiss is now ahead of the iHeart station, Channel 96.1, but I haven't seen the morning ratings.

Drex on 106.7 is okay in my humble opinion. I tend to not like non-morning talk shows about mainly non-serious subjects, but I love Mark Arum's show on WSB.

Roddy, the Drex from Kiss/Chicago and Kiss 95.1/Charlotte are two separate people. I haven't heard him yet, but I'm pretty sure the Drex on 106.7 is the former.

Pete Davis would be a better host for that time slot, but with Bloomquist in the building, that will never happen. He used to sit in for Tom "The King" Hughes and had his own evening show on WGST before the Planet Radio fiasco.

Pete Davis' show way back then was great. Similar at times to Mark Arum's show but with local issues tossed in.

Re:

What a minute...

Cumulus hired THAT Drex to host a sports-related program?

Wow.

Talk about a square peg in a round hole.
