Drinking On Air

Is there an FCC regulation prohibiting the consumption of alcohol on the air, either for informational purposes or "just because?" ???

The old rule used to be (and may still be) that you are not allowed to operate any broadcast equipment while under the influence. But just being drunk or drinking on the air is allowed. Many jocks and morning shows have gotten drunk on the air to bring awareness to certain causes (MADD, drunk driving in general, etc)

A few years back, Pete Sheppard was drunk while hosting the "Real Postgame Show" and was suspended for a while because of it.

I believe there have been some incidents where talk hosts, etc. got drunk on air to prove a point about
what alcohol does but they are most likely supervised, etc.
There have been some TV moments where the _interviewees_ have been drunk or at least tipsy; the show
from the Bull & Finch right after the Cheers finale showed the cast members had a few bad ice cubes,
while a Patriots-Jets game showed Mr. Joe Namath had had a couple pops (he declared he wanted to
kiss Suzy Kolber and didn't care one whit about the team strug-a-ling.)

There was an incident in 2004 at a NYC station where the DJ was compleely drunk and dropped the F bomb.

How many people was drunk or nude on The Howard Stern radio show ?

Anthony of Opie & Anthony admits that he was drunk on the air almost every day back when they worked afternoons at WAAF and syndicated at WNEW.

Two words: Michael Savage.

No...But I would lay odds that Steve LeVeille tips a few back before, during & after the broadcast...I mean, listen to that guy, he has to be under the influence of something inebriating. ::)

"this is sort of Johnny Fever, kind of Doctor. And after nine drinks, Venus Flytrap is catatonic, and I myself have personally just seen a giant pig. He is currently painting the walls of our lobby."
