Dripping Springs low-power station to get Austin presence

Approval of a recent application will allow K261DW 100.1 to move from Henly to the tower that's home to 104.9 The Horn, giving them some coverage into southwest Austin. The KDRP-LP translator is reducing power from their present 250 watts all the way down to 50, although their antenna will be about 450 feet high. Here's the 60dBu service contour: http://maps.google.com/?q=http://tr...1DW&freq=100.1&contour=60&city=HENLY&state=TX

For a comparison of the present and proposed coverage for the translator, scroll down to page 6 in the application: https://licensing.fcc.gov/cdbs/CDBS...?appn=101432415&qnum=5160&copynum=1&exhcnum=1

How will this effect my reception up near Lockhart 100.1? I can get them clean and good now.

Will they be able to pick-up KDRP off the air there with the new 103.1 translator in Westlake?

That's a really good question; the application says they'll get it off-air but that certainly complicates matters. Since the FCC issued construction permits for moves of the San Marcos and Henly translators and they're not prone to approve alternative delivery methods, this could get interesting.

From the new 100.1 site to KDRP is 10.78 miles and from the new 100.1 site to the 103.1 at Westlake is 8.38 miles. The 103.1 translator at Westlake is ver directional, sending little power to the west. Since the new 100.1 site is southwest of Westlake, receiving KDRP over-the-air with a directional antenna seems very doable.

This might just be a setup move though for 100.1 to move to Westlake too.

How will this effect my reception in Lockhart? I got 100.1 in my presets.

That's hard to say until the thing gets up and running, but offhand I'd expect that you'd receive them a little better. There's certainly a difference in the terrain from there to Lockhart versus where they are now.

I wish radio-locator will get their thing together and be able to get updated maps. I can't tell with the google map coverages. The Radio-locator maps showed the fringe areas.
