DRM

EMERGING TECHNOLOGY -- FIRST DRM RECEIVER COMING TO THE USA
Media Network reports that a new Digital Radio Mondiale (DRM)
receiver designed in France may soon be coming to American shores.
The Di-Wave receiver from UniWave Development SAS is expected
to make its debut March 25th at the DRM General Assembly in
Germany. This is an all band plus FM receiver that is Digital
Radio Mondiale capable on the Shortwave, Medium Wave and Long
Wave bands. It is also expected to be the first consumer level
Digital Radio Mondiale receiver authorized by the FCC for sale
in the United States.

It's about time. The rest of the world is going digtial. It is an FCC standard. So maybe it's about time.

Here is a specsheet:

Cool! Maybe I will get one of those someday. Think they take Dollars instead of Euros? ;o)

Thankfully, the Di-Wave appears to be far more portable (and visually attractive) than this: http://www.drmrx.org/mods/grundig_yacht_boy_400_lowres_1_en.pdf (look on page 4. Some of my friends and I actually tried doing a project like this several years ago in college, using my almost-identical Yacht Boy 400 PE. Didn't work very well, tho. But at least my radio's a little more selective now than it was before!)

Anyone know if Voice of America has a DRM feed yet?

They are sharp looking radios....but what are you going to receive on those? it's still a few years away. Yes it will currently receive broadcast, play your mp3's,. etc...but the fun thing in the future, you might be able to pick up digital pirate stations on them one day form anywhere. but most counties are shutting down or not even broadcasting to America these days.
