DROP MY NETWORK TV & CW-----FOR LOCAL INDEPENDENT !!!!!

Let's be realistic here.. getting the rights to some of those shows would be difficult. I'm not sure some of them are even available in syndication anymore.

Overall, CW and My Network TV aren't going away. I'm not sure any station has dropped either network unless the network was going to another channel in the market. There's less hassle in having a "network" in prime-time than in trying to do it yourself.

Could someone explain to me how the heck this is even possible? It has me stumped.

But even WCIU is growning complacent. They used to change the shows on ME-TV and ME-TOO quite often to mix it up. Now they seem in the last year and a half to figure out what works and are sticking to it.

Funny enough Me-TV and Me-Too run shows either uncut or with cuts in different places. I watch Dick Van Dyke or Mary Tyler Moore or All In The Family and I see things I've never seen before.

So either they're running them uncut or they are cutting out other sections. Probably the latter.

The problem with old shows is our memories are often better than the shows. Show like Hazel, Laugh In, Family Ties, Growing Pains that I once loved make me cringe now. I can't believe how much I used to LOVE Laugh In as a kid. Now I can't even crack a smile with it.

Me-TV shows Happy Days and Laverne and Shirely overnights and I can't stand to watch them anymore.

I don't know why certain shows don't hold up for me. For instance, I look at All In The Family and Me-TV says it's one of their most successful shows. I like it, but I honestly can't see how young people do, as it's so dated with political references and such.

So I guess it'd vary from market to market.

WPWR was a good station till FOX bought it and it became a dumping ground for shows from WFLD.

I think there is a market for different types of stations, if there's patience and money.

For instance, when WCIU started Me-TV and Me-Too for well over six month, almost even a year, you were still seeing public service ads. This means those shows were airing and there were no commercials to support them. Then Me-TV and Me-Too starting running commercials by people that don't usually have TV ad, like pet cemetaries. Meaning they were making commercials and selling them for low rates, most likely.

Now it's mainstream ads on both stations. I do think putting Me-TV and Me-Too on WCIU's subchannels helped a lot

Certain segments of the WGN-TV news have segments that show traffic reports, adopt-a-pet, and even certain interviews can be kept off of the national portion of the news show. Some of it is because the people who do the segments don't want it made nationally. If I'm not mistaken with the traffic reports, the FCC doesn't allow that to be broadcasted nationally. Someone correct me on that one. Some of the shows that WGN-TV has the rights to are only available on the local WGN-TV, but haven't been cleared for national viewing on WGN America.

Here's a wikipedia on
Syndex Rules (Syndication Exclusivity). Here's also a wikipedia on WGN America.

That's me and "The Flintstones." When I was a kid I couldn't wait for Friday night to see it; now I change channels if Boomerang is showing it. I don't even crack a smile at it anymore (OTOH, I still find "Top Cat" funny, and the Adam
West "Batman" gets even funnier to me the older I get).

Not sure why the FCC would care about traffic reports.

I'm not sure about the earlier portion of the midday or evening newscast, but the morning news contains syndicated segments that are licensed only for Chicago. This includes Kurt the Cyberguy. Watching a backup on the Dan Ryan is NOT one of them.

Not sure why the FCC would care about traffic reports.

There's an entire cable network that thrives on reporting weather information from across the country... so that's okay, but an out-of-area traffic report isn't.

Many news radio stations carry traffic reports, and most of these stations are streamed over the Internet. I don't think the stations are forced to withhold streaming these traffic reports, just as they do with local commercials. Absurd.

That would be great-but will never happen. The worst independents will probably be-OMG, informercials and low-budget stuff!!

Not true. I get the WGN evening newscasts, though I don't actually watch them.

How do they handle sports? You know the Chicago viewers would want to see the Cubs, so they must be on both.

Wait, I'm referring to 10 PM Eastern.

All Cubs and Sox games that are carried on Channel 9 in Chicago are also on WGN-America. Bulls games, however, are blacked out on WGN-A, except for maybe 10 or 15 games. I believe all Black Hawks games are Channel 9-only.

WGN-TV calls their 5pm CT news the evening news. Their nightly news is WGN News at 9, which is shown on WGN America. It's the 5pm CT news that doesn't air on WGN America. The morning news (5am - 9am CT, but on Aug 16th, will start at 4:30am CT), & the 11am - Noon CT portion of the midday news (the noon - 1pm CT portion is shown on WGN America) are also not shown on WGN America, due to Syndex rules.

My Network TV feeds programming to its stations 10 hours/week.

CW feeds programming 25/week if you count CW 4 Kids on Saturdays and Daytime CW.

I doubt infomercials will be airing in prime-time. Maybe during the former Saturday CW 4 Kids Block.

Got it. See, my Fox affiliate, which has 10 PM EST news, doesn't have 6 PM news and I wasn't thinking.

Didn't know they had the Sox too. I saw their logo the other night and found that out.
