But even WCIU is growning complacent. They used to change the shows on ME-TV and ME-TOO quite often to mix it up. Now they seem in the last year and a half to figure out what works and are sticking to it.
Funny enough Me-TV and Me-Too run shows either uncut or with cuts in different places. I watch Dick Van Dyke or Mary Tyler Moore or All In The Family and I see things I've never seen before.
So either they're running them uncut or they are cutting out other sections. Probably the latter.
The problem with old shows is our memories are often better than the shows. Show like Hazel, Laugh In, Family Ties, Growing Pains that I once loved make me cringe now. I can't believe how much I used to LOVE Laugh In as a kid. Now I can't even crack a smile with it.
Me-TV shows Happy Days and Laverne and Shirely overnights and I can't stand to watch them anymore.
I don't know why certain shows don't hold up for me. For instance, I look at All In The Family and Me-TV says it's one of their most successful shows. I like it, but I honestly can't see how young people do, as it's so dated with political references and such.
So I guess it'd vary from market to market.
WPWR was a good station till FOX bought it and it became a dumping ground for shows from WFLD.
I think there is a market for different types of stations, if there's patience and money.
For instance, when WCIU started Me-TV and Me-Too for well over six month, almost even a year, you were still seeing public service ads. This means those shows were airing and there were no commercials to support them. Then Me-TV and Me-Too starting running commercials by people that don't usually have TV ad, like pet cemetaries. Meaning they were making commercials and selling them for low rates, most likely.
Now it's mainstream ads on both stations. I do think putting Me-TV and Me-Too on WCIU's subchannels helped a lot
