Drop outs in audio files

Anybody run into this if so why? I have a fellow who sends me audio files for a radio show he does. They are MP3's and each lasts about 15 minutes. Although he says they are fine when he sends them when I open them and play them there are short dead spots maybe a fraction of a second long that you can hear and also see if you display them on Adobie Audition. Its like what happens when you have a bad patch cord and happen to bump it. He also claims that any streams from me break up the same way yet when I listen to our stream out of the server it's fine even 1,000 miles away . I'm thinking this is a data issue on his end but maybe there is something else wrong. Anybody have the same problem?

I would try to open the file in Windows Media Player first, to see if you hear the same breakups as in Adobe Audition. If the file plays through in another player but breaks up in Audition, go into the Hardware Preferences, Codec settings in Adobe and try a different Codec. I've run into something similar to this with Adobe before, but can't remember which one of the three or four codecs fixed the problem:

There is an issue with the file. Ask for another copy so you can compare it with this copy.

I agree the file is bad but the weird thing is this, When he listens to my stream he hears cut outs yet when I listen it is clean . He says my stream is the only one that cuts out on his end. When he e mails me files that are recorded clean on his end they have cut outs when I down load them. I have listened to his files with several codecs and redownloaded them and in each case they cut out. I'm stumped as to why this happens.

The thing about textual diagnostics, is the advice you get is worth every penny you pay.
So, when you say' 'he listens to your stream' and hears breakup, does your stream contain content that he recorded for your stream? Or is he hearing your stream breaking up no matter what the content. I recall you posted something before about how some listeners, possibly in certain geographic areas, are hearing your audio stream breaking up. Is this related to that question?

Do his files have a Constant Bit Rate or a Variable Bit Rate?
If the bit rate is variable, it's possible that your codec can't read the file properly.
If you'll email the audio file to me, I'll be happy to look at it. [email protected]
