DSPX hardware difference?

Hi all,

I have noticed 2 versions of the DSPx available. The older one is the one with the black knob, the newer is with the shiny silver knob.
Also i have heard some rumours about both versions sounding different with synchronized settings.
My personal feeling says that this is a hoax. I think it's just cosmetical changes applied on the dspx.

Anyone?

Regards,

Evert.

Both sound exactly the same. There are some internal differences (power supply for one), but otherwise, code is code and it performs (and sounds) the same.

As a matter of fact, 2 months ago I swapped software between my DSP-X (S/N 49) with a brand new one (S/N well over 200) and heard no difference in performance at all.

No one has one with the grey knob because it doesnt exist (YET) except on my computer (photoshop). You may have also noticed that the images from www.audio-processor.com show USB on the DSPX front panel. Both the knob and USB port have been added to the next production run of DSPX units for consistency with the DSPXtra and DSPXmini which use the larger knob.
As for different hardware versions sounding different, I dont think so! If you hear rumours just ask us direct.
Watch out for the DSPXtreme. The front panel has no knobs and no buttons at all. NAB2006!
Best regards
Scott

So it was a hoax then. There is no DSPX with new grey knob.
There are no hardware differences between DSPX's.
Sorry for any inconvience.

There are hardware differences but nothing to be overly concerned about. Serial number up to 100 are from the first production run. above 100 the case is steel not alu and most of the internal cards were removed and the circuitry put direct onto a new motherboard. Impending ROHS has forced another small redesign on some of the PCB's so the next production run will be slightly different again. Like most manufacturers BW strive to improve performance through R&D so it is obvious that small changes are made but on-air sound should be consistent across all models as the basic circuitry remains the same. It has to to provide backwards compatabilty.
Best regards
Scott
