Duemig Could Be In CC's Doghouse

I'd be surprised if they didn't work something out. 1010 and 1040 pose absolutely no threat whatsoever in personnel, budget or signal.

This is a different ownership group than when Duemig negotiated his last contract. CC's always been "Cheap Channel" but the new group is even more cost conscious than the old owners, to the point they are willing to axe high-ratings talent if they aren't willing to take a pay cut, or at the very least alienate top talent to get costs under control.

He could get his gig on TWO Tampa Bay radio stations for the cost of 60 second spot on MANY Tampa Bay stations: AM1340 and AM1350, plus streaming on the World Wide Web in both audio and video! :)

Given all the 'long-standing talent' CC-Tampa has dumped in recent years - Nancy Alexander, Whitney Johnson are two that come to mind, wouldn't it make sense for a budget strapped company to let Duemig walk and bring in say Justin Palowski to do 3-7??? i am sure that would save the company some cash and it would give a young and up and coming talent a platform.

i like duemig and listen to him often, but i think it's time to give palowski his own show.

just my two cents,

Palowski is a yeoman worker, fine for a fill in or weekend, but his voice is barely medium market, much less taking over for an established talent.

People screamed for about 90 seconds when Whitney was cut loose and then....nada.

DJ's come and go. They no longer have any say in music, promotions, etc. Sports talkers have much more on air time, responsibility, connections and so forth. Unless Duemig is asking for the moon, CC would do well to keep him, unless they have someone of his stature ready to go.

Duemig has spent his opening monologue on this subject of his contract. Openly pondering if his listeners are turning their backs on him, citing the lack of phone calls in the last several weeks. He also mentioned having "one more punch to throw." Sounds to me like he's currently torching his bridge, but we'll see.

I say they should give The Commish a shot and see how it goes.

Yeah. I usually catch the first ten minutes or so before work...today some muddled eminem song was on...or some garbage like that...

Hey..from someone who never had a contract, but worked on handshake deals for 20 years, some advice...Stop playing the f***ing martyr ok?

You've had a longer run than most in this market. No one, at least no one in power gave a rats behind when Whitney got cut loose...truthfully about five years beyond his expiration date....barely as many will care if CC dumps you.

Maybe its a ploy for attention during this time of a week off for the Lightning, no football...and the Rays, who generate very little talk....

Get over yourself...get on with it....or get out.

CC almost lost Randy Baumann, the host of the DVE morning show in Pittsburgh, over a similar situation. The DVE morning show has the highest 25-54 male numbers of any show in the country, period.... and it got to the point where Randy was off the air for a few weeks.

Comparing Duemig to Whitney isn't apples to apples.... Whitney was a bit player, Duemig's show is, or should be, the biggest moneymaker on the station.

And thank you, Studio 20, for reminding me what it's like to work in Florida and why I'm happy not to be there anymore.

Right around 5:30, he came back from break and said (paraphrasing), "I said earlier I had one last punch, and I threw it, and I'm going to be around for a few more years."

Apparently, his one last punch was to agree to the station's terms. Except I don't know if he threw the punch or took it, judging by the Tom Jones article in the Times and Duemig's opening segment.

All that being said, I'm fine with it. The guy's entertaining, and he talks hockey.

I think both sides needed each other in this case. There was nowhere else Duemig was going to go, yet at the same time CC would have been worse off for not having him. I generally enjoy the show and I'm glad it's staying around, although it'd be good to see some other things get freshened up.

Bobby Fenton is a younger guy whose show I have really enjoyed a lot but he hasn't been on lately. Someone should give him a look if he's still in the area.

There are certain people who are part of the fabric of each market. Jack Harris, Tedd Webb, McHenry, and Steve fit that mold here in Tampa Bay. Glad that Steve remains on the air.

Those who wanted Duemig out had to answer the question of "whom do you get that's better?" Very much the same situation as replacing the coach or manager of what's perceived to be an "underachieving" team. Duemig had no option inside the market and CC had no one waiting in the wings who would do a better job for less money or even someone who would do the same job (numbers wise) for less money. Under the circumstances, it's not surprising that cooler heads prevailed.

Believe it or not, I heard him doing a traffic report the other day on 93.3. I find it hard to believe he no longer has his own show (that I'm aware of).
