Duncan Stewart leaving WSIX

Radio Indian said:
Who will replace Duncan Stewart on WSIX after his departure later this month?

Radio Indian,
I don't listen to WSIX, so I don't know who Duncan is. With all the cuts at Clear Channel, one would think they may get somebody to voice track that shift from out of town?

He's on the House Foundation morning show with Gerry House. I read at Country Aircheck where PD Keith Kaufman is looking for a replacement.

Why is good ole Duncan leavin? He's been there forever. Tired of getting up at 3AM?
Been there ... done that!

Darren McFarland?
I just can't see WSIX replacing a TRUE TALENT and A LEGEND in Duncan Stewart with a NO-TALENT HACK in Darren McFarland, even though he would come at a much cheaper price.

Does Duncan Stewart still come on WLAC or does 1510 still have a sports talk show anymore?

Okay Joe Willie1979 ....we get it. You don't like Darren. What's the beef...he get your job..or more?

Book it....Duncan can't/won't be replaced.
And by the way...they won't be calling you

I"m with Olebud on this one. JWK it's getting very old hearing your rants about somebody you've never met!
Quite frankly, I think Darren McFarland is one heck of a talent in this town!
Nobody is saying that he needs to replace Duncan Stewart but if the guy is leaving and they have to fill the position, Why Not?
I think he got a raw deal at The Zone and I know i would listen where he lands.
Just my opinion.

I have no inside info....but watching clear channel for the last several years from the inside, I would not expect cc to put much money into replacing.....if they replace....duncan. And I'm guessing the move didn't come from Music Row...but possibly from down in Texas.

Gerry is making more than Duncan and Karla combined. Make Gerry House do the news and traffic reports. That's what radio is coming to because management doesn't have any insight. At least then Gerry will be closer to earning his keep.

We're still missing the details here. Who's decision is this?

The story uses the old standard term "exits December 23rd." Usually "exits" means he got turfed.

Or did he?

Is he moving on to another opportunity as in "it's his call"...or did someone else make this choice for him?

If it's not voluntary, are you really certain it came from Texas?

Gerry has/is earned his keep and that of Al, Duncan, Richard, Mike and others over the years. That's not the problem
Do I have inside information? No....but if I did, it wouldn't be my place to tell.

Other than Gerry House, Is anyone else at the Big 98 live and local? Lately, I have become suspicious that alot of their programming is either voice tracking or something other than a local live person. But I could be wrong.

Billy Greenwood is VT'd out of St. Louis. Big D & Bubba are on a slight delay, but they're at least local. They work several markets at once, so they track it a few minutes in advance. This Ty guy at night who sounds like he's on his first radio gig out of college can't be either live or local. He's so generic, it's painful.

It's sad that the House Foundation is breaking up... I hear it's not Duncan's call. But House needs to stop rambling on about healthcare and politics and focus on music row in the mornings. If we want talk radio, there's plenty of those choices in this town.

Interesting, the content of ItsMyLife's only two posts are about the departed Mr. McFarland...

As to makes the “calls” on WSIX’s staff CC in Texas owns the station. The good news, they are or have done a big bond-note deal that should take some of the pressure off their cash flow. The bad news, look what they have done to US101 and the entire cluster in Chattanooga. They had a cash machine that had been #1 in 12+ for a couple of decades IIRC. US101 has had only one C0 competitor in the last 20 years, and they only have a 25 KW C3 competitor now. US 101’s slid is sad. CC has blown up their Country Legend WLND. I hope they have learned a lesson and not get payroll cheap and ratings - billings poor. A big advantage they have over the other Nashville Country Stations is their morning show. WKDF and WSM have the signals to take advantage of any WSIX mistakes.

Earning his keep? In most years, Gerry accounts for almost half the revenues on that station. Are you sure you're on the right discussion board?

Maybe Gerry can escape CC and migrate to satellite, where he can enjoy an even bigger audience.

Worked for Stern. ;)

In a lot of cases, when they make a change like this, a PD will have a new jock already in mind to replace those let go. I wonder if that is the case in this situation. I can see where they would be interested in getting a female on the show. It seems like a mostly male driven air staff at WSIX.

Generally speaking, the way this all comes down is from Texass, where some bean counters decide how much of a cost cutting
swipe stations must make and the local managers have to figure out how to stay within their lowered budgets by slashing payroll or other
expenses. I am sad to see Duncan and Al get this treatment, and no matter how normal or acceptable this has become in this
industry
, its just bad. No matter how you slice it, this station will loose revenue and sales, faulter a bit in listener loyalty and
local advertising and it will COST the station multiple times more than the small "savings" San Antonio gets to proclaim. The
real mistakes are still the stupid prices paid originally after 1996 for 99% of the stations and all the automation, VT and cutting in
the world is NOT going to heal these patients. I remember all the bs about bringing multiple stations into one location and how these
cost saving measures would IMPROVE radio from the lowly one or two station single owners that were out of touch with emerging
corporate radio. These greedy corporate bastardos did it to themselves and the victims are all the listeners, shareholders (now) and
hard working employees who fear(ed) for their jobs every day, and attempt(ed) to remain loyal in hopes of not being "the one."
Sure, times and situations change, and cuts do have to be made in tough times, but many stations have not maximized
their sales staffs locally and marketed themselves decently for a decade and the results keep coming up the same...every
year cut...cut..cut. "We're victims of this and that and so we have to do this." These once iconic companies now are playing
catch up with each other to see who can ruin themselves faster and bigger instead of drawing a line in the sand and saying
"hey, we're going to stand out in a crowd and do something different like raise all kinds of hell and get noticed by the public
and offer businesses something so cool and hot that it will actually be worth their investment to advertise...and maybe we
will grow enough to not chop the heart out of these floundering tin cans before the last listeners finally tune out for the last
time because we're radio and we're not just another cookie cutter business like Home Depot or Walmart." But, no. Why be
at all creative or radical in hopes of saving even one person. Question is where will all these people that ruined radio end up
next when they've killed radio off?

Sorry Gerry, Mike, Al and Duncan, Richard and of course CR (and Buddy by default)...I apologize for venting and not trying
to crack a bad joke here, but lots of people on these boards and listeners who actually matter have ideas that could possibly
have prevented December 23 (right at Christmas)...but the decision makers ARE NOT EVEN LISTENING. End of my ranting for
2009! Bummer man delivers. :(
