Dutch engineer would love to visit a NY site

Hello everybody,

I'm not sure if this is the right place to drop this, but here I go:

I will be in NY 'around' 9/11, the radiostation I work for in the Netherlands (BNR newsradio) will do a liveshow from a location on 5th avenue. Last year, during the presidential elections, I visited the ABC facility at 125 West End Avenue and the CBS stations in LA. This time I would really love to visit a NY transmittersite, but would also settle for a studiotour around a NY station. ;D

Who is willing and able to make this wish come true? If so, please send a Personal Message.
If anybody is planning to visit the IBC in Amsterdam (or the Netherlands in general) I can return the favour! ::)

Definite dates are in:

I'll arrive in NY on september 7th, show will be on september 11th and my flight back will leave on saturday.
So possibilities are tuesday, wednesday, thursday and of course Saturdaymorning...

Since dates are around 9/11 I do understand there might be difficulties getting permission to go to a NYC transmittersite, but a tour around the station will also be greatly appriciated ;)

You can always visit the Empire State building and see many antennas blasting away. ;) I did the same, not so much for those antennas but the view is great. I will spending the whole October month visiting the US. Will spend 5 days in NY, fly to SF, get a rental en drive for three weeks around the west coast visiting LA, Vegas, San Diego etc. Fly back to DC and after a few days back to NY to get my flight back to the Netherlands. Your question to visit a radio station also crossed my mind but since I'm with three friends that are not interested in radio whatsoever I put it out of my head. But I'm looking forward to listen to the US radio, so far I only had the chance while visiting NY twice last year. Processing was a disappointment, so gentle and tamed. ;)

I believe that is a Citicorp building in Sunnyside (not THE Citicorp Building...the one in Manhattan with the slanted top. THAT's also a cool place to visit, BTW. It has a huge movable weight that is controlled by computer to counter wind-related building oscillation...caused by the slanted roof.)

Kind Regards,
David

Thanks very much for all the remarks and suggestions guys.
There is a nice sightseeing event on my NY calendar ;D

So...This thread _could_ be closed.

Somewhere around here I have a pic of me standing atop that building. Used to service 3 traffic cameras that the broadcast and cablecasters use that are on the top corners of that building. Also a few LPTV's up there.
Another interesting place to consider would be 4 Times Square, which is a major alternate and main tx site in the middle of town.

I trust you've made contact with our SBE Chapter, then.
If not the webpage would be http://www.sbe15.com/

Richard, if your schedule permits, Major Armstrong's historic Alpine tower would also be an interesting place to visit. It's across the Hudson several miles north of the George Washington Bridge
That definately is a good tip! Thankx!
