Not a good week or year, for that matter, for Carolina radio pros. Just the people I personally knew, Tom Brockway, Jay Jay Jaxon, Mixin' Dixon...gone this year alone. Yet, I cannot express with any amount of verbage or accuracy how much it pains me to type these words...Dwayne Ward, a product of the Boone Goon broadcast journalism assembly line at Appalachian State University(an assembly line that is long and impressive), "on the scene" KZQ newsman extraordinaire in the 80s, gonzo on-air personality at WROQ-FM/WAQQ-FM(now WNKS/Charlotte), Atlantic Records(among others) record rep for the Carolinas and Florida for years, author, friend to thousands and my very good friend for 25 years, passed away this week. No details, but when arrangements are solidified, I or someone will post them for those of you who are interested. All of our losses are hard to take, but this one especially for me.

I am a far better person for having Dwayne as a friend in my life. Rest, my friend, and one day, I will see you there.
 
It’s horrible news. Dwayne was a great guy. I hate that word was. I worked with Dwayne at WRQO. There were several folks who came out of Western Carolina and a group from ASU working there in the mid to late 80’s. It made it even more fun. Dwayne had a laugh that no one could forget. It made those around him laugh too. Nights out at the Cellar, Whispers, and several other places were full of laughter and cocktails. Dwayne and Ray would brag about ASU while Kilgo and I would defend WCU. I never got tired of that! I never know exactly what I should write at a time like this. I guess I should toast to the great memories and times.

My heart goes out to all those knew Dwayne.
