DX from Southern Illinois
Had a solid night in Southern Illinois, myself... From my location in White Ash, IL (between Marion and Johnston City), here's what I've been able to confirm, so far:
92.1 UNID – Running the “Hits and Favorites” automated format
92.5 WBKR – Owensboro, KY – Country – (114 miles) – Caught this even while sitting within 15 miles of my station’s (92.7 KISSFM) tower
93.1 KZLE – Batesville, AR “93.1 The Max” (250 miles)
93.3 UNID – I heard Weezer’s “Beverly Hills” end and then a jock talk into a song by The Used, using the simple positioner of “93.3 FM”
93.3 WDNS – Bowling Green, KY “Bowling Green’s Classic Rock, D93” (212 miles)
93.7 WTRX – Pontiac / Bloomington, IL “Thunder 93.7” (269 miles, using Pontiac as location, as I believe that is where the tower is at)
93.9 UNID – “Q94” /
www.theclassicrockstation.com
94.3 Believe it or not, I actually caught WLSZ – Jackson, TN here! “Z105” (205 miles)
94.5 WLRW – Champaign, IL “Mix 94.5” (179 miles)
94.5 UNID – Country – “Clear 94”
95.3 KXMO – Owensville, MO (Serves Columbia?... 217 miles)
95.5 (Could not find call letters) – Poplar Bluff, MO (“Z95 The Bone… 131 miles)
95.5 UNID – Country format – Possibly Cumulus’ country station in Nashville, TN?
95.5 UNID – Gospel music? Or an Urban AC title that would be in the Foxy
95.5 / St. Louis, MO library?
96.7 KCMQ – Classic Rock – Columbia, MO (240 miles)
96.9 UNID – “Fox 96.9” – Heard playing “The Saturday Night 80s” ... This station came in over the one that I SHOULD have gotten on this frequency, WDDJ - Paducah, KY
98.1 UNID – Country – Playing “After Midnite” – A search of aftermidnite.com shows the only affiliates on this frequency in Illinois or any neighboring states to be WBUL – Lexington, KY (294 miles) and KHAK – Cedar Rapids, IA (447 miles)…. I am much more inclined to believe this was WBUL, but I’m going to attempt to catch it again to be sure
98.5 KTJJ – Country – “J98, The Boot” – Farmington, MO (117 miles)
99.7 WXAJ – Hillsboro, IL (tower is actually in Harvel, IL… 154 miles)
100.5 WYMG – Jacksonville, IL (tower is actually near New Berlin, IL… 191 miles)
101.3 UNID – CHR format – Heard sweeper “G101.3” into a Kelly Clarkson song
101.7 UNID – Country – Playing “After Midnite” -- A search of aftermidnite.com shows the only affiliate on this frequency in Illinois or any neighboring states to be KBKB – Burlington, IA (364 miles) Is this enough to log this station, or should I try to catch it again and get a legal ID?
101.9 KIYS – Jonesboro, AR “101.9 KISSFM” (200 miles)
102.3 UNID – Was also running the “Hits and Favorites” automated format
103.3 UNID – Country format – Nashville, TN?
104.3 (Could not find call letters) – Mattoon, IL (104.3 The Party… 132 miles)
104.3 KBCN – Marshall, AR (342 miles)
107.7 WUHT – Birmingham, AL “Hot 107.7” (390 miles)
I also confirmed this station, which I had caught previously:
98.7 WNNS – Riverton, IL
And I picked these stations up with fairly clean quality that are out of the market, but not really far enough away to be considered DX:
92.3 WIL – St. Louis, MO
93.5 The Wolf – Evansville, IN
93.7 KSD – St. Louis, MO (93.7 The Bull)
94.7 KSHE – St. Louis, MO
94.9 (Call letters not found) ESPN Radio 94.9 – Evansville, IN
95.5 “Foxy 95.5” – St. Louis, MO
96.1 WSTO – Evansville, IN (Hot 96) / (Not unusual)
98.1 KYKY – St. Louis, MO (Y98 FM)
101.1 WVRV – St. Louis, MO (101.1 The River)
102.5 KEZK – St. Louis, MO
104.1 WIKY – Evansville, IN
106.1 WDKS – Evansville, IN (106.1 KISSFM)
Busy night... Question: Some of these are really not all THAT far away from where I was at... How far of a distance should I look for when deciding whether or not something is a DX reception? Educate a DX newbie!
