DX alert for 98.7 FM

Hey guys in Whatcom & Skagit countys check out 98.7 . The long awaited new station in Port Moody, B.C. CKPM 98.7 is now on the air testing. The station operates with 540 watts (1,000 watts maximum ERP). I am about 20 miles southeast of Port Moody and the signal is huge.

No word on what the format or branding will be when the station officially launches in a couple weeks, but the music being played during the test period seems to be Classic Hit oriented with an 80's emphasis.

Excellent! Now CIOC is the next one with interference...

It comes on hilltops really good, much spottier in downtown Bellingham.

CIOC is like a local in Downtown Edmonds and in the "bowl" as well as on the beach. Sounds as good as KAFE.

I still get nice clean signals in Aldergrove from CIOC 98.5 and KLCK 98.9 without any adjacent channel interference from CKPM 98.7. All 3 stations seem about equal in strength.

CIOC is a flamethrower all over Puget Sound. Even the cheapest clock radios can pick it up. The Edmonds bowl and waterfront seems to get Vancouver, Victoria and Bellingham stations better than Seattle stations.....

Short answer-There is a hill above Edmonds blocking it.

Long answer-Due to hills reaching 450 feet above sea level, it causes the Seattle stations to be static-filled and multipathed in Edmonds.

I usually listen to KAFE when over in Edmonds.

Does/has KUPL ever hit you guys up there?

[size=8pt]It's at least a semi-local for me down here. ;o)

Usually no. I think I only got them once via tropo. KWJJ 99.5 can be heard on Snohomish County hilltops away from the blast of either KDDS or CFOX. KUPL's 24,000 watts just doesn't make it up here. KWJJ's 50,000 watts is better. KINK's 100,000 watts is MUCH better

I heard KUPL once in Edmonds. I usually don't hear it until Tumwater, however.

Ditto here in Bremerton (the clock radio part anyway, but even also on some walkmans).  CIOC has a clear shot down the Kitsap Peninsula (as well as CKKQ).  KUPL does get into here sometimes on good tropo days.  With CIOC, I am still wondering what will happen here once the new 98.5 operation fires up down south...
