DX ALERT PIRATE ON 6950 SSB

Got him here in Chicago, but can't really copy.

Bellfast New york is a City they said. too weak right now. almost completely faded
6950 has Signed Off After Playing Wichita Lineman

I heard it too but the signal was so distorted I couldnt make it out.

Why would anyone want to run a pirate station on shortwave? It will have very few listeners. Internet stations also cover the entire country, and don't fade out like shortwave. Anyone can start an Internet "pirate" station for nothing.

Because Internet isnt as fun, its not pirating, and its not radio. Its not really about how many people listen to it. Its where and how far away the listeners are. With internet its easy, shortwave its a fun challenge. Plus Pirate Radio is free too...

You must not have ever built any radios (or transmitters), Nick.
I ran a SW pirate in 1991, and did so while there were more listeners.
I certainly wouldn't run the risk now, and while there are fewer listeners, there are more open frequencies.

But why radio, and not internet?

Because that's no different than what could have been done 90 years ago over phone lines.
Whether your wire is copper or glass fiber makes no difference.
Is is sound distribution, but has none of the allure and romance of radio, or the magic of ionospheric propogation.
It might as well be off your own ipod, as the result gives little or no hint of its journey.
It certainly is not of any use beside the campfire when hiking, or other "diconnected" occaisions.
Do not suggest 100% 3G coverage and cellular distribution is any kind of real "radio" either.

My pt 15 AM reaches many ears due to extreme pop density and the bandwidth is free as breathing air.
Tell me why I'd want to pay a monthly fee for bandwidth.

Feel free to suggest ways in which I can put a stream up for free and not have to pay for listener loading, or worry about
"other" issues, and I'll start to see it as being as useful as radio, but still without the allure of direct wireless.

I use ustream and its free... no worries about FCC. or getting a prison sentence.

There was a pirate on last night around 10 p.m. CT - 6925 kHz AM Mode, playing dance music, deep fades on the signal. Never heard an ID from them, just continuous music... I'm in No. IL.

That would be Liquid Radio,, and I know the opp... I wish I could tell you where the station is at, but I swore I would never tell anyone.. he's a pretty cool guy... There are 3 of us that play dance music sporatically on 6925,, and sometimes 6950 or 6955.. I honestly have no clue where the other ones are.
