DX-ing in Boston (Canadian Stations?)

Hello All,

Some folks on one of the other boards was discussing what Canadian AM stations we could (and still can?) be picked up in Boston & New England.

I remember waiting for the local daytimer on 800AM to go off (they didn't have a pre-sunrise or post-sunset authority back then). When they went off, I could pick up CKLW..clear as day with the great jocks and great music. For some reason, they don't come in very well in Boston these days.... Not sure why.

What Canadian stations can you DX here in Boston.

In the Northeast, I usually hear several...

740 CFZM Toronto -- Adult Standards (formerly CBL)
860 CJBC Toronto -- Ici Radio Canada (CBC French Network)
900 CHML Hamilton -- Talk

Occasionally I hear...

690 CKGM Montreal -- Sports (formerly CBF)
800 CKLW Windsor -- Talk
1550 CBEF Windsor -- Ici Radio Canada (10,000 watts, but still Class A)

I'm not sure why I don't hear CKGM or CKLW more often. In past years, these two stations were as reliable as the first three I mentioned.

And in the Northeast we used to hear...

940 CBM Montreal -- CBC
1070 CBA Moncton -- CBC
1580 CBJ Chicoutimi -- Radio Canada

But these stations were moved to FM. 940 came back as a privately owned station but ran into financial problems and went off the air. With no more CBL, CBM or CBA, we can't usually hear the English language CBC Network in the Northeastern U.S. But we still hear the French CBC Network, Ici Radio Canada, over 860 and sometimes 1550.

1070 CBA Moncton -- CBC

That New Brunswick sta used to bomb in coming down the Atlantic coast. As of now I no longer can get CBC network news on the hour on any AM station.

CBA was the only station I ever heard broadcast in "Atlantic time zone" one hour ahead of us in EST.

What is the manufacturer/model radio?

What does it matter? Any decent car radio (that still has AM, that is) will pick up the stations mentioned above at night once you get away from Boston proper and its high noise floor. 740, 860 and 900 are super-strong here in Connecticut, as well.

I used to love listening to CBM's sign off in the 1970s with "O Canada" and "God Save The Queen" after the sign off announcement.
