DX Madison<=>Nashville

(Hey K9EZ!)

If anyone's up up there with a decent receiver handy... we've got a bit of tropo going on... I'm sitting here in Pleasant View, Tenn. listening to WOLX back home in Madison, a tad bit noisy but darned good copy.

It was a night like this 25 years ago I heard a Nashville FM (now WGFX, on 104.5) from a Mifflin St. apartment. Guess those openings go both ways<grin>...

Now, lessee, what other Madison frequencies stand a chance of getting down here?....

WJJO-94.1

By the way I got WKDF-103.3 in Kenosha, WI a couple months ago as strong as a local.<P ID="signature">______________

Tried, not heard. Oh well. Indeed, I never found anything but WOLX from anywhere north of St. Louis.

That kind of long-haul tropo tends to be really dependent on elevation. (at both ends) Don't know if you know where the WOLX transmitter is (I've been to the site) but there's really nothing else at that elevation until you get to Tomah.

(geez, I should have checked 98.9 for WVCX...)

I suppose there isn't much in the way on that frequency. Nice catch!

I've been by the WOLX transmitter site in the Baraboo area. Its on a hill right?
Back in May of 1999 I tried recording WOLX while driving through Baraboo and the signal was very fuzzy because of the hills.

WJJO has a liner that goes sort of like "50,000 watts of power. Only that Louie Louie station your grandma listens to is stronger"

Up on the ridge between Baraboo & Madison, yes.

Ironically, WJJO's 50kw is actually more than WOLX's 37. But WOLX's antenna is a lot higher. If you factor in antenna height, WERN (88.7) is also bigger than WJJO.

WNWC (102.5) is also 50kw.
