DX question

WCBS indeed does carry. I've picked it up in London in 1978 & various times on the west coast between the 60s & the 80s. Even today in the Chicago area at night it is the strongest of all the NYC stations.
Picking it up in Puerto Rico in the day time is by far the best day reception I've heard of.

On the west coast? Wow! That's a catch, obviously before the feds started emasculating the 50kw stations and junking up the bands.

I've picked up WCBS out in Northern California back in the late 70s. It was on my portable radio late at night. It wasn't a regular thing but I heard it good enough to get an ID. I doubt it could be heard today with all the stations there now are.

WCBS clearly has the strongest signal at night of all the NYC stations where I am. Oddly enough, it had the weakest signal of all the 50kw NYC stations (660, 710, 770, 880) in the daytime when I lived in South Jersey about 80 miles from New York.

I'd be curious to find out what kind of antenna system they have, as that may contribute to skywave factor. I used to be able to pick them up quite well after sunset when I lived in TN.

Before the AM band was emasculated, coast to coast DX was a regular occurrence. In 1963 while in Seattle, Wa. I not only picked up all of the Chicago 50KW clears, but heard WCBS, WABC & WBZ very well. KOB was off for Monday morning maintenance. On several other trips to California in the 70s & 80s I picked up WCBS several times when KRVN used to signoff at midnight central. Even into the mid 80s WLS could still be received well in southern Cal when KDXU would signoff most nights.
