DX questions

Dx ing the "clears" is fun but this is a great time of year to try the x Band stuff. I got a 1650 from Portsmouth VA (about 600-700 air miles from Englewood Fl) and a 1650 from Ft. Smith AK (about 800-900 air miles from Englewood both in the same hour (before sunset). Both stations were ID'd I just don't have the data in front of me. There's probably more stuff than that.

Cold winter air and/or the low sun angle do wonders for am reception. In the mid 70s, I once had WWL all day long....in Iowa. Then here in the Chicago area in the early 60s I spent a day rockin' to WDGY in Minneapolis (a year or two before WISN moved to 1130).

At night, when I could catch the West Coast (KFI, KNX and KNBR), it was always during winter cold snaps.

Of course, now the band is too crowded for "mere mortals" (without special equipment) to expect to hear any of this stuff...at least with any regularity.
