DX VST Plugins Effects

Just wonder what DX, VST effects Radio-Info members are using with Adobe Audition or Cool Edit Pro.

I'm Using:

Wave Diamond Bundle
URS Classic Console EQ / Compressors
SFX Machine (The Sound Guy)
LUXONIX LFX-1310

these are just my favs (not in any order).

let me see if I have this right....

you are using $5000 worth of plugins... on cheap, consumer-grade, $300 software, that has a HORRIBLE mix bus and will wildly screw with what those expensinve plug ins will do?

just checking....

...Back to the original topic...

Most of the Waves plug-ins are overrated. The L1/L2 algorithm is exactly the same as Audition's hard-limiter, except for the included IDR dither/noise-shaping options (which really aren't that great either). The C1's operating algorithms are just like those in Audition's dynamics processor, but with fewer options. The noise reduction stuff in the Diamond Bundle doesn't hold a candle to Adobe's, but I can't speak for the newer Z-Noise because I haven't tried it. The Q10 isn't my favorite either, but I do prefer it over Audition's parametric EQ. The C4 (in my opinion) isn't nearly as good as iZotope's multiband compressor (which is now included with Audition, as I understand it). The linear phase stuff is sorta cool; the Waves reverbs are very good; I do like some of the "non-traditional" modules (like the Enigma), and I like the opto compressor behavior for some things. I also like the L3 a lot.

I haven't touched the URS stuff or LUXONIX, but SFX Machine does nothing for me.

That being said, I'm a big fan of everything from iZotope. Ozone 3 is my favorite and I use it for everything. It has the best EQ that I have ever used (as far as software goes), as well as the best feature set for any dynamics processor. The multiband stereo imager has its place, as does the harmonic exciter. The m-Bit dither is also the best you'll find. A lot of people love the loudness maximizer too, but I prefer the L3 for that job. The reverb sucks and is probably Ozone's weakest point.

Trash does exactly what it is supposed to do and it does it very well.

Spectron is a nice, original plug-in. I don't know of anything else like it.

...And you can get the whole bundle for a few hundred bucks!

I'm using Spectron and Vinyl ( love that, and it's free) on a Nuendo platform. There was also another group I found over a year ago - the Classic series...Classic Compressor, Classic EQ, Classic Reverb, etc. that are very nice to work with.

Anyway to convert RTAS or VST to DirectX? I have the FREE Bomb Factory plugs...but aren't compatible with AA 1.5. I REALLY want to use the 1176LN plug... I have the outboard version, but it's at work.

I don't know of any RTAS to DX converters, but there are several VST to DX wrappers, like one from SpinAudio. Usually works very well.

Emmett, did you ever use an Ensoniq/PARIS system? I had one that I sold a couple of year ago and the greatest thing about that system was the EQs. I swear those EQ's were as close to a Neve I'd ever own! I hated to let it go, but it was way more than I need for V/O at home. So now I'm back to CE Pro and AA 2.0. Any suggestions on what I might ad for FX?

Gregg,

Never used PARIS.

As I said above, I really like iZotope Ozone 3 for all kinds of tasks. For EQ, it has digital or analog modeled 9-band parametric. The layout of the EQ makes it really easy to "tune". You might also like the URS Classic Console series or the Waves SSL series of plug-ins. I haven't used either one, but I know they're both very well liked. As far as hardware, the best inexpensive semi-parametric EQ that I know of, is the Cal Perkins designed channel EQ found in Mackie Onyx mixers.

gregg... I LOVE MY PARIS... just thought I would say... :).... I mainly use it for music production.....

btw......have you ever tried the Paris EQ vst?

its pretty close to the real thing... including a lot of the fun when you turn up the trim.... :D

I still don't know why that system never took off. PARIS was some seriously great stuff with a much lower cost and learning curve than PT! My heart sank when Ensoniq dropped it and support for it. I miss it. I used to record my band and blew my guys away with the finished product! Give a listen here...

Of course that's an mp3 highly compressed file! But it sure sounds great at full CDA on a pair of EV Sentry 100As LOL
