DXing 1610 AM

Does anyone ever hear anything on 1610 AM. I was under the impression that it was originally supposed to be part of the expanded AM band, but I don't think any commercial stations ever used 1610. I know there was a station in Witchita, TX that was supposed to be on 1610 but I don't know whatever became of it. The only thing I've ever seen on 1610 is low power traffic or tourist info. I used to get Dr. Gene Scott on the Carribean Beacon in Anguilla but haven't tried that one in a while.

In Canada there have been 2 stations on 1610. Both commercial. One in (mostly) Spanish and the other in French. The French station moved to 1410 last year because they could operate at 10 times the power and were getting clobbered at night by the station in Toronto. However a new station has been licensed for 1610 in Montreal just this spring and should appear on the air in the next couple of years.

I think I got a TIS one night this last winter, maybe a NOAA one, but it wasn't strong enough to ID. I know that Crainbebo heard the Caribbean Beacon at least once this past DX season. At my QTH there's quite a bit of splash from 1620 to cut through, but a couple of my radios have good enough selectivity to tame it on 1610 if there's anything there. 99.9% of the DX sessions there's nothing there but splash.

Yes, I did hear the Caribbean Beacon from Anguila from Western Washington. 3,800 miles at what I think is 25KW! Melissa Scott barely heard, but what can you expect from that far of a signal? This was from last year, a DXer in Puyallup caught them with a really good signal. http://www.mail-archive.com/[email protected]/msg61429.html
Now in Yakima it's a local TIS, WQBV569. Operated by WSDOT, the 10w blasts into Western Washington all the time. They are a regular outside the KYIZ-1620 listening area at night, along with the NOAA WX station from eastern Oregon.

What I get on 1610 is mostly local or semi-local TIS. I have, however, heard Spanish with a weak signal. Assume Toronto. I've tried a few times for Dr Gene Scott and company. Not recently and not successfully.
