DXing For The Year 2011

For some of us, we have either relied on tropo, skywave or a very rare Es experience but my actual question is: Will the atmosphere put out this year like it did in the Super Tropo Event?

We can only hope. I'm waiting for 2012. There is a bunch of weird solar stuff that is supposed to happen that year, part of the reason that people think the world is going to end. Hopefully it means some rare DX opportunities and not the end of the world.

December 21, 2012 to be exact. Between the movie 2012, the end of the Mayan Long Count Calendar and the current state of the economy since many feel that we are in a massive nationwide depression even worse than the 30's ( explain that one to Texas ) and the only way out is suicide ..well there is no shortage of those who really believe that we will NOT be here on December 22, 2012.

Wait and see I guess ;)

For the record according to a guy who was passing out tracts in our local supermarket parking lot the first city in America to be wiped out on 12/21/2012 will be Denver....make sure you listen to KOA that day ;D

i'VE GOT A GOOD DEAL ON A BRIDGE i'D LIKE TO SELL THESE NUTCAKES! ;D

yeah and there's some 89 year old preacher on the radio who says he's studied the bible and we've calculated it all wrong and judgement day is May 21, 2011.

So if something solar happens to knock out all skywave (ionosphere), wouldn't there still be groundwave for lower frequency applications, like AM broadcast for example?

This preacher sounds like a nutjob. The world will end, just not in our lifetime.

The "preacher" saying the world is going to end 21 May this year is Harold Camping; the owner of "Family Radio",I'm not sure how many stations Family Radio has, but I know of at least 4 in Florida, most on the FM band,Camping also operates on shortwave out of Okeechobee,FL

I'm going to Russia that week. Being Eastern Orthodox, their Julian calendar is running about 2 weeks behind our Gregorian calendar, so that gives me a little extra time to play. Having said that, December in Moscow would be no picnic, no matter what calendar you're following.... :p

The weather might be lousy, but the DX should be good.
