DXing tonight in Brockport

Some interesting things occurred while Dxing in with my radio here at my place in Brockport tonight:

--For a good two hours after sunset I was able to get 1010 WINS quite good. Nominally for me its usually either CFRB or a jumble or sorts on a bad night.

--WWJ Detroit had overtaken WROC.

--Got all the clears from Chicago perfectly.

--Furthest away station I got tonight had to be either 650 WSM in Nashville or 750 WSB in Atlanta.

--Despite getting those stations WWKB was coming in quite bad. I suppose its the old dead zone circle thing here in WNY.

--Picked up a station the frequency 580 at one point. Never made out a callsign, but since the closet 580 I know is WHP in Harrisburg I'm going to assume this was a Canadian station. Then again, 5kw at a low frequency dial on the AM can be a real powerhouse.

Hey dustin I live in Brockport as well. What was the format of the station @ 580 AM? I've pulled in a standards station out of Charleston WV on 580.

Last night about 5:30ish CFCO in Chathan, Ont was coming in like a local station. I'm just east of Wellsville.
WSM was also coming loud and clear. I tried to tune in KB, but the hetrodyne (sp?) was terrible on 1520.

I never heard the format on 580--it was commercials and I didn't wait around long enough before I flipped away, later when I flipped back it was gone. 1520 is a real mess at night sometimes here in WNY--dead zone factor and all. WGY didn't come in that well either--IBOC hissing

The longest DX I ever personally heard was in the car on Route 104 heading toward Brockport. It was WWL New Orleans.

Ever since my trip to Nashville I regularly try to DX WSM in the car. I have about a 1/3 success rate in terms of getting a listenable signal.
