And that seems to be the way it always works. Just when you need the ID the station fades.

Yeah. I hate when that happens. Especially when it starts coming in more clearly after the ID break.

It's amazing how often that seems to happen.

This is somewhat related to what we were saying, but it's even more annoying. Tonight just before 6PM Eastern I was enjoying some Urban-sounding song on 1540AM. I figured the station ID would be coming on after the song finished, but before the song finished at about 6:03PM WPTR (or whatever their calls are this week) from Albany, NY began blasting in eliminating this other 1540.

If you've DXed long enough you've had that happen too. AGGRAVATING!!

DXing = catching fish on the lake
Online Streaming = Buying fish at the store

Good analogy!

For me the main purpose of listening to either is the same. I'm sharing in their world, I'm sharing with the folks for whom the broadcast is meant. This is probably the main reason why I've gotten into DXing.

To this end, I do enjoy online radio very much, because for example (through my FM wireless device, over my boom-box), I can be in the garden, listening to the same Reshet Gimmel, RTHK 2 or NOS Radio 5 programming, which is being broadcast to their respective local audiences. I feel like I'm sharing in a little part of their world.

Having said that, DXing brings the (obvious...to us) added excitement of 'the hunt', something which few folks can understand (my wife thinks it's a strange hobby and doesn't know how I can get so excited about getting a station for England or possibly Armenia on my AM radio. :D). As much as I enjoy the convenience of online radio, it can't replace the excitement of DXing.

Cooking a great meal, as opposed to picking up something at the drive-thru.

It's all about the personal effort, and the resulting satisfaction. ;)

All this can also be said about DXing TV stations too (Except for the being under the covers part of course. It's a little harder to hide the glare from a TV screen than it is the volume of either a radio or TV unless you turn the TV off that is :D ).

Just my $.02 worth.....

Cheers :D
