DX'ing video from Lubbock

I was up late last night and caught lots of stations in my car. Since I had my camera, I decided to film them. I did all I could to prove to people that I really am in Lubbock by pointing out a few landmarks, just in case someone thought my video was fake.

Stations that were heard in the video:

93.3 King Country, New Castle, OK 268.9 miles
107.7 KRXO - Oklahoma City, OK 279.7 miles
99.9 KWKR - Leoti, KS 341 miles
104.7 The Cave, Springfield, MO 566 miles (This was coming in crystal clear earlier but unfortunately when I started filming, the signal faded out. To hear this, I would recommend putting on headphones or turning up your speakers very loud...listen especialy from 4:55 - 5:00 and you can barely hear it say "Springfield Missouri's timeless rock, 104.7 The Cave)

I know I sound and look like an idiot in front of the camera but it was very late...Here's the link. Enjoy!

OTHER STATIONS THAT I HEARD THAT WEREN'T IN THE VIDEO:

KCMQ 96.7 out of Columbia, MO
KWDQ Woodword, OK
KJYO Oklahoma City
KFXJ Augusta, KS
Star 103.3 Tulsa, OK
KQCV Shawnee, OK
KOCD Okemah, OK
KMYZ Pryor, OK
KSCB Liberal, KS

I used to be very successful in hearing Dallas FM from Lubbock. All it took was a deep fringe yagi and good tuner. Most of the time they were solid as a rock, but very weak barely moving the signal strength meter off of zero.

Thanks.  Last night was very unusual.  OKC comes in on occasion but never has it been crystal clear.  It was very interesting hearing stations on 104.7 when there is another 104.7 nearby in Lamesa.  It was extremely unusual hearing rock on 96.7 (NOT IN VIDEO).  I normally hear 96-7 out of Dallas or Kiss FM out of Austin.

It was also unusual catching KJ 103 out of OKC because I normally hear 102.7 out of Abilene...Eventually, I lost KJ 103 and started hearing 102.7 out of Liberal, KS.  It was a very interesting night.

If I ever experience any more DX like last night, I'll be sure to try to film it and share it with y'all. I wish I would have had my camera with me when I caught Jacksonville, FL out of Lubbock last Summer!

Your fans threw tortillas and batteries at us.
Lol...in that case, I assume you are an Aggie.  Come now, we aren't that bad lol  ;D.  I saw plenty of tortillas at the game but i didn't see one battery thrown.  But, I am sorry your experience in lubbock was negative...I hope your next experience is better.  ;)

Happy DXing!

From College Station, I've received mostly Louisiana Stations and Mexican Stations. One station that comes in often is 93.1 XHAAA from Reynosa, Tamaulipas Mexico. I'm pretty shure the height of their Xmitter is more than just 295 feet.

Lufkin-Nacagdoches station also come in. Austin and (some) San Antonio stations come in on a daily basis. Houston is a no brainer here. Beaumont-Port Arthur every now and then. Corpus CHristi is another market that also comes in under certain conditions. Dallas is, odly enough, the hardest surrounding market for me to listen to.

I believe 90.1 and 93.1 in Reynosa and 107.1 in Matamoros recently moved to a centralized taller stick in El Control, just across the border from the the Valley's tower farm in La Feria, Texas. Televisa's channels 7, 9 & 17 also did an upgrade there.

That is because College Station is surrounded by larger markets that have stations on the same frequency. Lubbock, on the other hand is a little more scattered. When I went to CS, I was able to listen to KSCS all the way to CS...until KAGG started bleeding in. Another station I have heard out in CS is KLUV. The markets I hear regularly up here are Amarillo, Midland, Hobbs & Roswell from time to time, Big Spring, and Abilene.

Dallas comes in from time to time. The easiest station to listen to by far though is 96-7...mainly because it is r imshot of Dallas. 96-7 is sometimes listenable out here in Lubbock. The other Dallas stations are usually only listenable under certain conditions. KKDA was the easiest to receive up here in Lubbock, until they put a low powered religious station on the same frequency down in Snyder. If I had the expensive equipment, I'm sure I could hear Dallas more regularly. Another thing to consider is that Lubbock, believe it or not is at an elevation of 3,000 ft.

As someone who lives in Lubbock, I wish I could have caught some of that myself!

Getting Western KS and OKC is not all that unheard of, but MISSOURI! Even more impressive is that 104.7 The Cave is only 34,000 watts at 594 feet. Thanks for sharing.

This is why I love DXing in the June. I'll never forget when I caught Jacksonville, FL out of Lubbock last year.

If I make any other catches (since its only the beginning of June, I'm sure I might be able to make a couple other good catches), I'll be sure to post them on here, if I have my camera around when i'm dxing.

Great video, thanks. I'm not a big FM DXer but set 1 frequency (96.5) to a fairly open channel in Englewood FL. Usually get Orlando or a semi local translator when conditions are decent but one day the station was (can't remember the calls) from the Cleveland-Akron OH area ;probably a good 1000 mi away.
You are probably the first (or one of the first) to "prove" on video your FM catches in the U.S. So congrats for your creativity.
Plus Texas is now on my short list (in June) to do some golf, fishin, bar be que, historic sites, watch some baseball, AND do some DX ing!
Isn't the worst of the spring tornado season over by then in TX??
Guess I'll find out.
