Dylan gone at Q100 ?

Re: Dylan gone at Q100 ?

Don't kid yourself. Dylan's outing at Q100 is pure financial. Cumulus is bleeding money from that building like crazy! It took them months just to do the 2008 budget. How many ways can you split a penny? Getting rid of Dylan's low 6 digit salary was probably needed even though under his watch the station has done fairly well. It's not like he was making a lot of money for a guy who was the program director, music director and afternoon guy, right? Am I wrong here?
Cumulus probably thinks that they can just get rid of him and get Rob Roberts to do a bunch of his stuff. From what I hear from insiders Rob is the laughing stock of the building. He surfs the web all day, eats lunch and calls it a career. "Rob Roberts' only claim to fame is that he once worked at some station in Miami. Not that the station was any good while he was there, just that he ran it". Not my quote. Rob is now the PD of Q100 because Cumulus needed Rob to actually have something to do and needed to save some money because they really don't know how to make any.
Adding insult, 99X has no ratings to sell and no sales staff who have relationships to get the mercy buys that they used to. I think anybody in sales who had tenure in the market were fired or left to get the hell out of there. Q100 has ratings but then again just like the 99X scenario have nobody with a higher than a paper boy pedigree to sell it. It's all about money and the lack of it. I was told that back in the 90s WNNX used to make 17 million a year from sales and this year they barely hit 7 million. Nice job Cumulus. You must proud of your efforts and the people who own your stock must want somebody's head on a plate.
I know 6 people who work in that building in different capacities and 5 out of the 6 are very vocal about how screwed up Cumulus is to work for. As in lying, stupid, arrogant, smile in your face and steal your chair kind of stuff. I'm guessing that anybody who works on either side of that building really needs the job and has no other choices.
Here's hoping the Dylan or anybody who gets booted out of that place finds a better company to work for. I know I wouldn't work there from the crap I hear. I'll just continue to be a medium fish in a medium pond, be happy and call it a day.

I am? Why don't I have a gig in ATL then?

Re: Dylan gone at Q100 ?

Bert signed what I think is a five-year deal last year so he'll be around awhile.

Re: Dylan gone at Q100 ?

Concerning Bert

Bert has a clause in his contract that states that Cumulus promises that he will be a on a full city grade signal in year two of his deal. Does Cumulus think they're going to buy Star94 or are they going to blow up 99X and put Q on it.
You learn this stuff pretty easily when you get one or more of the drones over there to open up. I get the feeling that there aren't very many happy people at Q100 especially in the sales department.

That's really interesting, considering the fact that Q100 has been "city grade" since it was a C-3. And which city are you talking about? College Park, or Atlanta? Either way, city grade in both since the day it signed on.

Did I mention I signed it on?

Re: Dylan gone at Q100 ?

Did I mention I signed it on?

I was listening. The "Everybody talks about Q music" loop ended and a song played. I was on the 14th Street exit of the Connector when you said the first words.

I loved the original top-of-the-hour ID: Everybody talks about Q music followed by, "From the new Q tower atop Peachtree Plaza..."

Regarding Q100's original signal, yeah...it was 3,000 watts. But what everyone forgets is that with FM, antenna height is as important as wattage. At almost 1,000 feet, Q's original signal was equivalent to 25,000 watts at 300 feet, the same signal as Praise 97.5's 7,900 watts, still a small signal for Atlanta. But the competing stations would say, "Why would you want to advertise on a 3,000-watt station?"

Was that really used on the street? Very clever. Don't think it worked though, as Q has been profitable for a # of years. You are correct about height vs wattage. We did have a pretty nasty null to the northeast protecting a proposed upgrade by WSSL Greenville. We have since come to terms with them and they have downfraded to C-0, which allowed us to upgrade to C-2 with a much smaller null to the northeast. Do they know us in Gainesville? Nope. Is Gainesville a part of the ATL MSA? Nope. The signal is very competitive now, even on inversion prone hot muggy days.

BONUS QUESTION: Do you remember what my first $1000 that day said he was going to spend his money on?

Re: Dylan gone at Q100 ?

Roddy or JoJo - do either of you have any early Q100 airchecks? I'd really be interested in hearing them.

Oooh...that'd be cool. I'm also interested to know how each of you effected Q100....

No, unfortunately. I did one that I sent to a friend out of town, and that was it.

Hi Scott! How's that Padukah gig going?

;-)

Gee, Jojo, I'm flattered that you've obsessed so much over our flame war of a few years ago that the fire still burns brightly...for you, at least. I've occasionally run into a some of your other attempts on other forums (here on radio-info) at engaging me in another round of public fisticuffs and it's brought a smile to my face each time. It's nice to be remembered. However, I feel I need to make a few corrections. First of all, I am not Hotdog1980. If I feel the need to say something, I never hide behind a different screen name. Hopefully, Hotdog will man up, but if he doesn't, that is his shortcoming, not mine. Second of all, I have never quibbled with your talent level or, for that matter, your people skills. Both are excellent. This entire thing started because you flamed a friend of mine that you used to work for and I took umbrage to your comments. So I commented back. And then, you took umbrage to my comments. Should have ended there, but it escalated as many of these things do. I'd prefer not to publicly air our grievances, but if you insist, we can go at it again...with relish and vigor and simultaneously sully this site and entertain the viewers of this thread. Otherwise, you can email me and we can discuss this as gentlemen and agree to disagree. I have heard from many of our mutual acquintances about some of the tough luck things that have occurred to you since we went at it, and I am truly sorry that those things happened. It is a testimony to you as a person that you have risen above those misfortunes and prevailed. That is why it is sad to see that you still seem bitter. I wish nothing for you but the best and hope that you have a great 2008.

Oh yeah, and thirdly, I never worked in Paducah. I was a corporate PD for a group in Tennessee that owned a station in Paducah that I oversaw. Nice people, nice set up, bad fit.

Re: Dylan gone at Q100 ?

Anyone remember???

"Everyone's Talking About Pop Music" playing over and over for several hours before the station started.
And then being used for the next year in the station's imaging.
The station using the "Hot Hits Q100" monaker for the first year.
I believe "This I Promise You" from NSync was the first song played with live DJs the first day on the air.
Lindsey from the Real World on the Bert Show.

Brings back memories.

Re: Dylan gone at Q100 ?

Ah yes, Hot Hits Q100. I also remember the night show with Suzy Tavarez, which was based around a series of Top 10 countdowns if memory serves. The music was fun and even edgy at times, a far cry from their current lean. I remember hearing things like "Back That Thang Up" by Juvenile, "Don't Call Me Baby" by Madison Avenue, "Promise" by Jagged Edge... They've come a long way since their launch and have had some solid talents who have gone on to big things crack the mic over the years.

You're right! The music was much more club oriented then. Tracy's cardio radio was dance music as well! I liked it better then!

Q100 top songs - Jan 5th.

1. One Republic - Apologize
2. Jordin Sparks - Tattoo
3. Colbie Caillat - Bubbly
4. Rihanna - Hate that I love you
5. Matchbox Twenty - How far we've come

ZZZZZzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz.......

Re: Dylan gone at Q100 ?

I think they made the decision to target Star's audience vs. the Beat's.
