Dynamax DCR1000

Recently was given a bunch of old radio station gear and I'm sorting through it now. There is an analog cart machine that doesn't work (and I don't have any carts so it's moot), but the item I'm interested in getting to work is a Dynamax DCR1000 floppy disk cart machine.

With everything connected, a poweron just shows a blank display, can't find any information on the internet except this: http://radiomagonline.com/departments/signoff/radio_shaping_radio_today_19/
Which describes the codes and how it works a little bit. Does the blank screen just mean it's fried and I should toss it?

Maybe Cartguys can help - they deal in Dynamax tape-cartridge hardware so perhaps they might have some info on the DCR1000.

They probably aren't as carts are more for nostalgic people like myself or stations that still have an archive of audio on tape or haven't gotten rid of them yet.

Sonifex in the UK also put out a digital cart machine in the early 90s using a 2 MB floppy. well, 2.88 meg floppy anyway. I found one up for grabs on ebay, so I did a little research as I was thinking of getting for my studio "museum" on vintage stuff and here's what I came up with from the sonifex web site:

"These machines used a 2.88MB floppy disk to record high quality audio. Unfortunately, the floppy drives were discontinued by the manufacturers (NEC, Sony, etc) in 1999, so these drives are no longer available. Thus, neither are the following products. We can still offer most spare parts, apart from the drives"

I'm guessing, and probably a safe guess, that the dynamax used the same drive, and if it's gone, well. I might add I did a detailed search to find 2.88 MB floppies online, and came up empty. So unless you have a bunch of "digital carts" with the machine, you really couldn't use it in the first place.

Shame really, it would be cool to get something like that working, but with no service manual, and like a computer, it's obsolete before it hits the studio. It's virtually impossible to get parts unless you find someone with a good for parts deck, you're likely looking at a lot of frustration to even try to get it going.

Respectfully I would send this to the bin. they didn't work all that well when new. Lots of issues with the drives and disks
