Dynamax MX 12 channel console

I'm having trouble hooking up turntables to this. The output of both turntables I have is off kilter, R is about 2 dB louder than L but according to the manual I have no way to adjust for this on the console. Just total volume of both channels, no balance. Is there any way around this?

I tried swapping turntables and preamps and it occurs on both making me think that all vinyl is like this. The preamps are regular ones you can find, a Behringer and an ART DeeJay Pre.

A second question is where can I get new bulbs for the start/stop lights, a few have gone out...

thanks!

Some Dynamax consoles have LED's. The older boards have incandescent lamps, assuming the buttons are original. The bulbs are #394 and can be ordered from any decent parts supplier, such as Newark. If it's a LED, contact Sandies USA (www.sandiesusa.com) to figure out the proper replacement.

I'm wondering, could you add a little trim-pot to the louder channel to see if that levels it out. Some older pre-amps I've run across (don't remember any brands right now), did have separate L & R gain controls.

Also, make sure your tone-arms and pick-ups are properly balanced (counterweight and anti-skate controls).

Any change that's 3dB instead of two? Be sure you haven't 'half - tapped' the balanced feed from the preamp to the console. If you feed + and ground into a+ and - input you'll get a level offset. You'll also get a really stranger phase shift between the two channels.

Quick and dirty test - swap the output wires on the preamp at the console and see if the problem follows the wire or stays with the channel on the console. If it stays with teh console channel, then it is a straightforward exercise in troubleshooting, one channel agaionst another.

Hard to know exactly without a test record but it could be that way. Here's some more info which might be telling: The inputs are wired from the DA-15 connector to 1/4 TRS jacks, however the pre-amp output is unbalanced. Usually this hasn't bothered anything but it might be this time.

Yeah this has bulbs, is it possible to replace the bulbs with LEDs?

Yes, but a change has to be made on the module...I think you change a resistor...I don't remember the details. Sandies can tell you more.

Unbalanced pre to balanced in? Henry Engineering is Your Friend. Get a Matchbox<tm>. In the bargain, it has individual level controls for each channel.

There was a drawing done at the factory outlining the change. I don't remember exactly what resistor, but the above post is correct about a resistor change. I believe it was a 0 (zero) ohm resistor. You also had to orient the housing one way, which some are and some aren't with initial build at the factory, because the voltage polarity mattered to the LED's, but not the incandescents. Sorry I can't remember which resistor it was.

There are some from ATI....the ATI P1000-1 has transformer balanced outs with levels up to +22 (!!). The P1000-2 has active balanced outs. Problem is they ain't cheap, with MSRP over 700 bucks.

Another poster recommended a Matchbox or similar. I agree. Simpler and probably cheaper than a new balanced preamp.
The Rolls MB15 matching box is OK and inexpensive. Henry makes nicer stuff and in my experience is near bulletproof.

Is there a good quality preamp with balanced outputs? I've always wanted one but never had luck finding them.
