I guess I have to spell it out for you:
as a salesman, if the best I could do for you is E.D. ads mid-day, it is saying I am not doing a good job getting clients or the sales people are having trouble selling the product.
If you are a vendor looking to buy spots on the radio, being placed between a well known car dealer and a well known bank is great. It might actually make you feel good buying the spots because bank B and car dealer C did also. Some people get nervous spending large amounts of their companies money on advertising.
My personal beliefs are meaningless in sales. All I care about is how my customers feel about the sale and the sales atmosphere. The customer pays my salary and bills. If my customer becomes nervous if I am getting near the edge, guess what? I mellow out. I dont want to offend. I just want to take care of your business needs. If placing my product near brand x makes you nervous and you are a large customer, guess what? Ill look at something else.
Do you honestly believe people who buy advertising don't care about placement of their ad and placement of other ads in the same time period? If I bought time on channel k on tv for my product and was placed between two late night dating services, what would be your perception of my company?? Would it be better if I was between two well known established Chicago icons?
