E! returns to Canada

As mentioned on CTV Toronto news this evening, Star TV will be no more as of November 29th.

It will become E! Canada.

So yes, E is back, but this time it will be a proper specialty channel, and not the poorly run half and half failure that tried to exist on CHCH back in the day. (half specialty, half local tv station)

Plus, it will also exist without having to compete with Star, since it is replacing Star this time round.

I just hope E Canada's new owner will take better care of it, and not air too many e talk daily shows. (CTV's version of Entertainment tonight Canada)

Years ago, Star used to carry a fair bit of E! programming. I have a bit of it on tape.

Was this before E! aired as a channel on channel 11 and other global properties?

E! near the end of it's life on CHCH was carrying Wild On!

Which was also the final regular program on E! station CHCA-TV in Red Deer, Alberta, before showing three hours of infomercials as its last scheduled program; it showed a goodby slide the next day, and went dark for good following.

Now that I think about it, Wild On was also the last show for E! in the Montreal market.
They went to non stop music videos with the CJNT symbol in place of the E! symbol.

Good thing Channel Zero bought CHCH and CJNT. Those stations were also going to sign off forever.

It will actually be embarrassing if E! gets better ratings in Montreal or Hamilton after all is said and done.
Not sure about Montreal, but I'm sure that won't be the case in Hamilton at least, since people there DO want their local news & information.

CHEK-TV in Victoria was about to meet the same fate, until it was acquired by a group of employees at the 11th hour.
