E-Skip Catch in IL from TX

In Beecher, IL (35 miles south of Chicago)...

9:30a CDT: "Texas Country / Kicks 99.1" with several commercials mentioning Midland & Odessa, very strong for about 2 minutes, came back around 9:45a through 9:55a. KHKX-FM Odessa.

9:59a CDT: ID of KFLB-FM Odessa, Family Life Radio, brief opening that lasted only about 1 minute.

not bad at all. I can hear those stations all the time here in Lubbock. The other day I was picking up a few Dallas stations here in Lubbock...nothing compared to what you caught.

My best catch in the DFW area was 95.5 out of Jackson, MS.

Thanks! It's certainly not the first time I've heard Texas and Mexican FMs boom into the Chicago area. One thing that helps is that the Chicago FM stations don't run 50,000 or 100,000 watts. Being high atop the Sears Tower and Hancock buildings, their power is reduced to a range of 4k to 20k. They have very respectable coverage with that antenna height (~ 70 miles), but when the DX is strong it can walk right over the local stations with ease. Radios don't desensitize as much around here, either, so anything on vacant channels comes through.
