E Skip-Eastern Ontario/Upstate New York

I've got Prairie Public Radio, KUND 89.3, Grand Forks ND, booming in here in full blown stereo, from my location south of Ottawa, Ontario.

The current program is "Speaking of Faith", which I'm also hearing on 91.9, although none of the 'local' NPR/PRI are carrying it...must ID that one.

The 91.9 frequency is also from North Dakota, being KDSU in Fargo. I'm also getting Spanish programming on 91.9, with mentions of Crystal City Texas...

I'm getting all these on my JVC micro down stairs, which is hooked up to a pair of (indoor) rabbit ears...I first started noticing the unusual visitors when KUND 89.7 began crowding out my 'local' NPR station WSLU on 89.5. ;D

Around the same time, I added two Canadians from here in Poughkeepsie, NY.

10:30pm - CBWY-92.7 Jackhead, Manitoba with "Inside the Music".
11:00pm - CKDR-92.7 Dryden, Ontario "Todays Hits & Yesterday's Favorites".

Earlier in the day, a separate opening brought 3 new ones:

1:25pm - WYTK-93.9 "The Score" Rogersville, AL with ESPN.
1:30pm - WESE-92.5 "Power 92 Jamz" Baldwyn, MS.
1:41pm - KWYN -92.5 "Country 92.5" Wynee, AR, with Arkansas Country, and "20 minute weather guarantee".

Haven't been able to tune in much these days, but I did manage to pick up WNIN Evansville IN, around 8pm, on 88.3 this evening. It was running rough shod over a religious broadcaster ("Hour of Decision"...WJLY, Ramsey IL ???), while occasional visitor Syracuse NY's WAER was nowhere to be found.

From Geneva, NY (Finger Lakes region), I, too was getting some E-skip from the upper midwest. Much of the activity was on the educational portion of the band. This was between 9:00 and 10:00 p.m. Here is what I heard.

KCRB (88.5) Bemidji, MN (classical service of the statewide public radio network)

KFBN (88.7) Fargo, ND (religious)

WQRN (88.9) Cook, MN (religious)

KUND (89.3) Grand Forks, ND (Prairie Public Radio)

KCCM (91.1) Moorhead, MN (same as KCRB)

on 91.7: KLSE Rochester, MN (same as KCRB) fighting with KPPD, Devils Lake, ND (same as KUND)

This is the first time I can recall getting skip from the upper midwest. All of the skip I have received from NY has been from lower midwestern states like Kansas or Nebraska, deep southern states, and Florida.

A question for the more knowledgeable DXers on this board regarding the behavior of E-skip. Does the effect work both ways? In other words, when I was hearing stations from MN and ND, were DXers in those states getting stations from upstate NY? Please pardon my ignorance. While I love the DXing hobby, I will admit I don't know all there is to know about the various forms of DX. Another reason I ask is because I don't recall ever seeing any logs of E-skip from my area.

Generally, yes, skip openings are bidirectional.

WOWZERS!

WMPN 91.3 Jackson Mississippi coming in right now (10:30 EST), with RDS and everything (displaying MPB 91,3 THINK R). I'm using the Sangean PR-D5.

Also picking up WKMS Murray Kentucky, plus a couple of others mixed in there.

It's been pretty quite, but this morning I picked up a probable KWEN 95.5 Tulsa OK in my car, just north of Brockville ON.

I couldn't catch an ID, but the format was country, with ad for Speedway Chevrolet (there's one in Broken Arrow OK) and political promo for (Jerry) Jari Askins.

Got to run, but I'll have find the distance for the catch!
